Over all this is a great reg set. Would I love to have adjustable flow and braided line from the factory? YES, But I paid [$] for this reg and I dont even remotely believe I could get this on a reg set of this wuality for that price. Breaths like silk and is light weight. My only wish would be (I am a big guy) a coulple more inches of hose. New short hose causes a clight cant in seating of the mouthpeice causing minor jaw fatigus after a couple of dives. Gee I had to buy a $35 hose to make it perfect for me. I can live with that. All in all..... if your ooking for a grear reg for a minimal abount of money, Mares didnt skimp with the Ranger 12, you cant go wrong with this one.P.S. Bought one for the wife too she feels the same about it. Hose length if fine for her though.

This is a good, basic, entry-level regulator. It breathes easily and has a great price-point. However, any time the mouthpiece faces up towards the surface while out of your mouth, it will go into freeflow. Seeing how it is in my mouth 99% of the time, this was a minor issue. I would recommend to others, but only as a value-priced starter.

Comments about Mares Ranger 12 Regulator:

I'm a new diver with 15 dives mostly around 80' in 80 deg water. This was a great choice for me as it's a balanced diaphram 1st stage with reasonably weighted 2nd stage (around 200 grams). I have jaw fatigue with some rentals but not this one. Just to be sure I used a flexible hose and elbow at the 2nd stage. This is the workhorse for Mares and normally at a great price point around $200 at discount places. In my case I bought it on close out special from LP for only [$]! Well known brand so parts availability is assured, great performance at my max depth which was 95', and great customer service from Scubaboard, and from my supplier of choice Leisure Pro. Doesn't get any better than that does it?

Comments about Mares Ranger 12 Regulator:

Great economical regulator. No fancy features, breaths easily, just solid reliability. First stage is the time proven Mares MR12 and the secon stage is a varient on the Mares Prestige and was intended for rental and training use. Note: this is not a "dry" first stage an is in intended for warm water usage. However, it can be converted to "dry" with the addition of the Mares CWD kit which will back it usable in cold water.

Comments about Mares Ranger 12 Regulator:

This replaces a SPARE AIR. While a bit larger, it has more capacity and is easier to maintain. The PONY TAMER makes the package easy to assemble. Only downside is using borrowed tanks, then the TAMER must be moved between tanks.

Comments about Mares Ranger 12 Regulator:

I got this on super close out pricing. Have 15 dives on it including several 90+ feet with no problems at all! Works as good or better than most rental equipment. It has a well known r12 first stage that's a balanced diaphram, and second stage breathes very easy all the way down. I found the mouthpiece comfortable but I changed to a flexible hose and added an elbow. These were personal preferences of mine and not due to anything to do with this regulator.
