DESCRIPTION
Mares Avanti Quattro has set the standard for which all fins are measured. It's the world's first fin with four channels. Inspired by marine mammals channel Thrust technology maximizes the channeling of water and moves a much greater amount of water compared to other fins of the same size. The result is greater thrusting power with the same amount of effort. Its Channel Thrust Technology offers the most versatile choice in all diving conditions.

The first four-channel fin in the world the Avanti concept has taken a step forward; its four channels outperform traditional fin efficiency by 20%. Stabilizers improve stability and eliminate ankle-twisting phenomena. Anatomic foot pocket transmits more power to the blade. The foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade.

The Avanti Quattro uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles. It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckles from accidently opening making them the most user friendly system on the market. Fin comes in three colors and three sizes, has an overall length between 24" to 25.6" (61 to 65 cm) depending on size. Fins are made from Tecralene and Thermoplastic Rubber; weigh between 3.3 lbs to 4.4 lbs (1.52 kg to 1.98 kg) and come with a 24 month limited warranty.

Found these in a bargain bin 15 years ago for $50. From the first time I tried them (over 500 dives ago) I absolutely loved these fins and still do (I even gave away my other 2 pairs of fins at that time). They work great for all types of kicks: flutter, scissor, frog, heli-turns etc, but they are tiring on long surface swims on my back (facing up). I was recently given a pair of Jet Twin Max fins that will probably collect dust until these die, which won't happen any time soon. Despite all the scars in them from heavy use, they still have plenty of life left in them and many miles to go.Matter of fact, I'm starting some work on Easter Island next month and am looking to buy the full foot version since I won't be needing booties there. Not only would I recommend them to a friend, I'll be buying another pair soon to keep as a backup.

I have used these fins on approximately 50 dives. They are good mid grade fins except for the snapping strap feature. Frankly speaking the ABS (Adjustable Binding System), is a major pain in a particular rear facing body part. The snaps open very hard and if you are not wearing gloves you have a good chance of hurting yourself. I have noticed that they have been opening easier with time, which make me think this feature is wearing out. I cannot recommend these fins.

Comments about Mares Avanti Quattro Open Heel Fins:

Been diving since 1971, got the Mares fins in '95, average better than a hundred fifty dives a year from the local quarry to trimix cave and wreck diving. The fins still perform as well as they did 17 years ago, the buckles and straps are original, top quality material and performance. Will buy another pair if and when this pair ever expires.

I have a wider foot and I love that the foot pocket accommodates this for me. I was always struggling to remove my last fins, however these are a breeze to get on and off. I love them!! Just wish they were a bit lighter in weight is all.

Comments about Mares Avanti Quattro Open Heel Fins:

Without question, the best fins I've owned in 16 years of diving. I recently switched to these fins while diving in Thailand. Due to strong current at some of the dive sites (Similans / Koh Bon / Richelieu Rock) I was struggling to kick through and spent a lot of time and air to do so with my Atomic fins. Between liveaboard trips I picked these up and they were an absolute dream. Effort reduced by 60-80%, resulting in longer and more relaxed dives when faced with moderate to strong current. Were also excellent for all other conditions, including difficult surface swims.
