DESCRIPTION

Whats in the box:Spear Gun, Shaft JBL724S, Slings One JBL614, Shock Line JBL565

Don't let the price tag fool you, the Carbine series delivers more bang for your buck than anything in its class. Just like its bigger brother, Carbines are constructed of 1" (2.5 cm) 6063 aerospace grade aluminum and feature high-strength stainless shafts and triggers. They're powered by one or two 1/2" (13 mm) Hi-Mod bands and a low-profile, pistol grip handle that makes for easy target acquisition. So, if you want a spear gun that will bring home plenty of fish without breaking the bank, the Carbine fits the bill.

The Mini Carbine comes equipped with the JBL724S 24" (61 cm) with a 9/32" (7.11 mm) diameter Stainless 17-4 spring steel shaft, has one JBL614 sling with 302 stainless steel wishbone. A durable molded corrosion free ABS Handle and Muzzle, guns overall length is 27" (68.6 cm) and has a 9' (2.74 meters) range. The 2011 JBLD-5 & D-6 both have a shaft with integrated point and barb, no need for an extra spear tip. However since the tip is still threaded, if you wish, you can add adapter JBL815 which will then let you connect any 6mm JBL spear point.

JBL's fixed spear points are a perfect blend of durability and performance. Each point is designed for low maintenance, dependability and most important results. The JBL565 Shock Line will keep your gun and spear shaft attached to one another when you shoot helping bring in the game.

The most important thing a new owner will encounter as a challenge will be cocking the gun by stretching the band to the shaft notch. Due to this gun's lack of extension butt pad its very tough to get the band loaded. I've made a PVC sleeve/pad that fits over the handle to give me more leverage for easier loading. On the positive side, I use this for spearing Northern Pike in Alaska's lakes where the quarry is often hunkering in thick weed beds and shooting distance is often point blank so the limited range is not an issue in this application. The shock cord does need to be lengthened for longer shots and to give the fish room to fight. Works great in close quarters and light enough to use all day without tiring.

Buy a Better Gun

Comments about JBL Mini Carbine Spear Gun (D-6):

I use this gun for fish and lobsters in and around reefs in the Caribbean. This is not a bad starter gun, but I have used it 3 times and I'm ready for a better one. The default range is just insufficient. I replaced the cord with a longer one for more range, but I lose many fish because the spear does not completely penetrate, or the fish simply spin off the line.
Having used my friend's Beuchat, I now find this gun to be terrible by comparison. You'll have a lot more fun, and bag a lot more fish with a proper gun, which this is not.

Comments about JBL Mini Carbine Spear Gun (D-6):

The ripcord this gun comes with is very short, it also does not come with a spear tip. I just went to the dive shop down the street and got a longer cord and a good tip. Otherwise though this is a great gun if you're going after small to medium sized fish. I got a 6lb sheepshead last weekend no problem.

Comments about JBL Mini Carbine Spear Gun (D-6):

This is my fourth JBL mini. I use it just about every weekend. It is great for small to medium fish--2 to 20 lbs. Easy to maneuver in and around pilings and rocks. Had bigger, sold'em. You want be disappointed.

Comments about JBL Mini Carbine Spear Gun (D-6):

Everyone seems to have a problem with the short range. Easy way to fix that....buy a longer shock chord. Ever since i added a new one this gun has been great. I made the new line about 8 ft or so and it seems to work great.
