Inspired by a remote dive exploration in Japan where divers had to hike their heavy gear through dry portions of cave to get to the underwater sumps. The explorers also needed the versatility to switch their gear configuration from back mount to side mount to single tanks (flexibility that a traditional hard back plate does not offer). Designed like a mountaineer's backpack, the Trans-Pac disperses weight across the hips and back, minimizing shoulder strain.
Adjustable 2" (50 mm) nylon webbing rated at 7,000 lbs (3,175.15 kg) breakage strength, straps feature pivot rings at chest level for comfort, fit, and load distribution. They also adapt to a wide variety of exposure suits. Acetyl resin engineered plastic quick release buckles on the shoulders means easy donning and doffing. To add stability there is a 1" (2.5 cm) 2,200 lbs (997.9 kg) breakage strength nylon webbing sternum strap that is equipped with a 1' (2.5 cm) Delrin quick-release buckle.
A soft back plate constructed of 1,000 denier ballistic nylon fabric for tear and abrasion resistance accommodates side mount diving, yet gives appropriate support for single tanks, double tanks or re-breathers. Slots in the back plate fit standard 36-inch cam straps (included) for single tank diving. The modular design allows for customization using an assortment of pockets and accessories, depending on the needs and desires of the individual diver.
The Trans-Pac allows attachment of as many accessories as you can muster all hardware is (316) stainless steel with four 2" (50mm) D-Rings on each shoulder strap that are slightly bent for improved access and placement can be adjusted (note: Small and Medium size have only one on each shoulder strap). There are six 1" (2.5cm) D-Rings on each side of the harness that provide attachment points for light canisters, pony bottles, lift bags and other equipment. Stainless steel base plates allow for proper placement of shoulder straps. Plates can be moved forward or backward on the waist strap to get the best fit and performance. Plates are pre-drilled to attach optional Tek D-rings for use with stage bottles and side mounting.
Grommet mounting holes slide over bolt kit when diving doubles and help the diver set up trim. There is a crotch strap D-ring for attachment of an optional crotch strap and included are two 2" (50mm) webbing cam straps with stainless steel buckles for mounting harness to single tanks. Cam straps are standard 36" (91.4 cm) in length. The Trans-Pac is lightweight and flattens easily into a suitcase for travel. The Trans-Pac is designed to be used with any wing in the Dive Rite line. The Trans-Pac is made in the U.S.A.
