Comments about Cressi Delta 2 Snorkel:

To the untrained snorkelerette this may seem a pretty average piece of equipment, but the avid snorkelenir immediately recognizes it as the most auspicious of specimens. And far from wrong he is: With carefully nurturing (in the manner of slight modifications) one can turn this snorkel - which is pretty dece right from the bag - into a veritable Bombin' Snorkel.

Some notes about construction:

Very Durable: the only hard plastic is in the snorkel foot. The main tube is a nice semi flexible material: stiff, but with just enough give not to crack. The silicone tubing is thicker and tougher than in most snorkels and with a nice curve that reduces jaw fatigue by keeping the mouthpiece in your mouth.

Very nice low profile purge system. A permeable shield protects the delicate valve without comprimising function.

Tooth pads have a very nice ribbed texture, quite agreeable to the chompers. The mouth piece itself is of heavy, thick construction which prevents cuts and undue wear to the gums.

Some modifications for advanced snorkelers (snorkelenirs proceed):

First: rip off the piece of junk "splash guard". This makes breathing much easier, But Beware: Water will now enter the snorkel more frequently. Learn to use your purge valve!

The stock snorkel clip (keeper) is also piece of junk: Replace immediately.

There you have it. You have transformed your snorkel into a very functional and aesthetically pleasing article - one that would make a fine addition to anyone's snorkel collection. I have a very fine orange specimen adorning my living room wall. Many vistors remark on how it ties the whole room together. Indeed I've had a problem with some of my house guests feinting upon spying the piece. It seems they mistake it for one of Plato's perfect exemplars. Quite understandable.

Couple'ah Cons to Consider:

Like others said the purge valve guard will clog with sand, but, obviously, that's only a problem for ostriches or others who frequently bury their head in the sand. Compartment is easily cleaned with water hose.

If you are a jaw gnasher -like me- you will eventually wear through the tooth pads. And a replacement mouthpiece is near impossible to find.

I used this for about 10days in the keys while catching lobsters. I found that the snorkel easily filled with water while being towed behind a boat or in small waves. I am sure this would work great with little to no water movement. Also the purge was very hard to clear, and took several attempts to expel the water.

This snorkel clears fully every time, easily. But its best feature is complete lack of drag - one of the only 'purge' snorkels I have found that you can freedive with zero drag. Fantastic! Lost mine, desperate to replace!! Not cheap but worth it. May need to replace clip though - struggled with that as it can work its way free on ascent.

This is actually the second Delta II I've purchased after giving my original to a friend. Much, much easier to breathe from than the other models I tried. While diving in Hawaii the purge valve got sand in it, but not enough to prevent a good seal. It was also easy to clean the sand out with a hose.
