Comments about Casio GW810BXD-1V Silver/Black G-Shock Atomic Solar Watch with Digital Dial Code with Metal Band:

A great, full featured watch. Has all the features one would need in a day-to-day watch. I especially love the solar powered feature, I never have to worry about my watch battery running out. While lacking specialized features like a compass or barometer, it's got everything you need for everyday use. It is extremely durable, I'm constantly knocking it around with no harm to it. I do have two gripes, though: 1) the timer only can only be set to a maximum of 59 minutes, you cant set the timer to go off after one or more hours. 2) I have been unable to synchronize the watch with the Atomic Clock. I live in Nassau County (NY) and work in Queens, but all attempts to synch in both locations have failed. My previous G-Shock with this feature was able to synch-up. Keep in mind, however, that I just may be beyond the rated range at wich the watch can pick up the Atomic Clock signal. Regardless, my older watch was able to do it but this one can't.

Comments about Casio GW810BXD-1V Silver/Black G-Shock Atomic Solar Watch with Digital Dial Code with Metal Band:

I've owned and worn a G-Shock for the last 15 years or so, and for me, I can't think of wearing anything else. I haven't just been spoiled by the G-Shock, I've come to take it for granted. That is to say, if I were to wear any other watch, it would most likely be dead within a few weeks due to its inability to take the daily abuse the G-Shock is subjected to. My last G-Shock lasted me about 15 years, and might have kept going if I hadn't changed the battery myself. About 2 months after I did that, it just died one day. Up to that point, it worked flawlessly. For the model I'm reviewing, you should never have to replace the battery, and that's a good thing. So, on to the review...First of all, multi-band means stainless with a powdercoat black on the outside and coated stainless on the inside. I still have no idea what digital dial code means, if someone knows, drop me a clue, but the crystal appears to be glass, not plastic, as I had on my other G. This is a mixed blessing, as it's fancier, nicer, but also a female dog to keep clean. It's always getting smudged up, especially with the black background behind it. I bought this watch originally because I thought the bright white numbers would really look neat. Well, they aren't exactly white. And not exactly bright. The watch isn't that hard to read, but the numbers are more of a titanium color, which is to say, like a goldish-silvery color for those of you who don't know what titanium looks like. It's still very cool and I like it a lot, but it doesn't look much like the picture. I guess they never do. As for features, what can I say, it's a G-Shock. If you are familiar with the G-Shock, you will have no trouble using this watch. It is also waterproof to 200 meters. 48 world cities, countdown timer, alarm, you can switch the date display to show the day of the week if you are that confused. It's solar, and syncs up with the atomic clock in Ft. Collins CO every night if that's important to you. There was some talk about the buttons being hard to use on some of the newer G's. Not so here. Easier, if anything, than my other one. Be prepared to have many links taken out unless you are the largest man on the planet. The back light is in blue, so it is like blue characters on black. Looks-wise, I love it. For what it's worth, my wife, who never once had anything to say about my other G-Shock, commented about how nice it looked, and said that it was tough, but stylish enough to be worn as jewelry for those events that require us to be "dressed up." She didn't say it exactly that way, but you know how women talk. It's like another language altogether. That's the gist of the message. She also picked out the analog Baby-G for herself after seeing mine, so there you go. [...]
