This is a simple analyzer that does what it's designed to do. You really don't need to purchase the test c0 to determine that it's working. A simple breath into the sensor will register. Then test your tank.

I recently had a fellow diver pass away from CO overload. He was mapping a cave system in Mexico and the tanks were filled by a reputable dive shop there. The CO levels in his tank were elevated and this was never detected until after the fatal incident. We as divers need to be as safe as we can be, that's why we train and practice and check and double check our equipment. The one thing most of us never consider is the air in our tanks, unless we dive EAN we just don't test and even then we don't test CO levels! Is your life worth [$]? I believe mine is!!!! This little meter is worth EVERY penny!!!!!!!!!!!!
