I've gone through about a dozen "back-up" lights looking for the right one at a low price: dependable LED, long battery life, solid build. They all fell apart after a few dives, except this one. I finally opted for two primaries, but recently decided to give this one a try. I have really tried to punish this thing, and it keeps on working. I lost it on a 125 foot wreck dive, but found it the next day still lit-up! Only complaint is the lens has scratched earlier than expected.

This is a decent light as a backup, though not super-bright. When used during the day, it has to be carefully directed to be used as a "peeker" for under ledges, etc., or it won't be effective, as it isn't that bright around the periphery. It would be much easier to use if it had an actual on/off switch. Instead, you turn the body of the light, as if you are tightening or loosening it (as you do when you open it or put in the batteries). This creates a real danger of opening and flooding the light when you are simply trying to turn it off. Not sure why it was designed this way. We bought two, and one flooded the first time it was used, even though it had never been turned on or off.

Comments about Princeton Tec, Impact XL Flashlight:
We use this as a backup light for diving. But, It can be a main light if your dive buddy has a strong light.

Good Value

Nice and bright (brighter than more expensive flashlight of similar size). Only downfall is the twist on feature without a button or switch to turn it on.

Seems to be a good product

I will use this light for poking about during daylight use and as a back-up during twilight/night dives. It seems to have a concentration of light but not @ a point. With the LEDs the batteries should last a long time along with the brightness of the light. It is possible to have the lens assembly which is used for the on/off switch tightened just a bit too much which allows the light to come on under pressure from dive depths. Also, if the lens assembly is backed off too much the unit will flood. The operation is something that the operator has to get used to.
A good backup light

This is a good solid light that will stay on for a long time. I use it as a backup. Be careful to not unscrew the lense (on-off switch)too much when under water or prior to entering, because if you go past the 0-rings it will flood.
