im an avid camper and hiker. at camp this lamp is very useful as a spotlight and to find that occasional item i drop in the dark, or to look in the woods for the animal thats making that odd sound. on the trail its very good at detailing the ground. if anyone has used a cheapo led headlamp, (not recoil technology) for finding your way on a trail, its like watching a black and white TV. very grainy and strains the eyes. however recoil LED is NOT good for setting up your tent, or organizing the inside of the tent because of the intense focus of the light beam. but i find little difficulty difference in between the 2 types of beams if you have no other backup. the beam will hit and clearly illuminate a tree at 40 feet with a beam spread of about 2 feet in diameter.as waterproofness goes, i dont know why people use it for scuba diving. ive seen this product on many websites and they list it as a diving lamp. if youre going to use any product, you have to consult the owners manual for proper operation. if you go to pelicans website; [@] they will clearly indicate that it is not suitable for scuba or submersions over 1 meter for longer than 30 minutes. so diving is out. but walking in the rain, taking that stroll in the darkness to find a tree to relieve yourself, works just fine. the only problem ive had with my headlamp is that if condensation gets inside the housing, and being waterproof, it stays in there and corrodes the battery contacts. simple scouring with sandpaper takes care of that. weight is not an issue unless you're elderly or a toddler. i give it a 9/10 because of the limited beam when working in close quarters, but an excellent product.

I am a commercial diver, so I spend many hours under the water. My company utilized these lights for about two months, but every light we purchased, eventually flooded. They would work great for about a week or two, but would soon flood with water ruining all the electronics inside the light. We sent a few back to Pelican, and they sent us new lights but they flooded also. We we told them of our problem with these lights, they said that there was a manufacturing defect and that these lights were no longer being sold as diving lights. So there you have it... Hope this helps someone to make and informed decision before purchasing this light. It would be a great light otherwise.

My favorite Lobster light!

This light is a "must have" if you need hands free operations. It's my favorite light for taking lobster because it is as bright as my primary light and has an easy on/off switch. I've sent the light back to Pelican for 4 replacements in 3 years. 1 time it was a bad LED, 2 times the on/off switch was flaky and you had to smack it to make it light, 1 time it flooded instantly due to a bad factory seal. It's got a lifetime warranty from Pelican so replacement is an easy no questions asked policy and they give you a new one off the shelf! I wish it was made better but the beam is so perfect I can't night dive without it so I deal with the high defect rate. This is the only Pelican light (I have 4 Pelican lights) that has failed on me continuously.

A bit bulky but worth the money

I use this as a secondary light. I was able to rig it to attach to my BC instead of my head. The beam is bright white and goes far. My only complaint is that it's a bit bulky and the beam is to narrow.
A Great Value/Relaible Too....

Much less expensive than other head lights..Excellent for ship penetrations where there's zero light and you want to pull through rather than kicking up silt...Putting in batteries is tricky...
