diveinst d Which weight pockets do you recommend?
DAN W Hi, I don't know what kind of diving you plan on doing so I will give my opinion on the two weight pockets I have. I have both the No Sag weight pocket and the Compact weight pocket. The No Sag pockets are are big and bulky, lots of storage space for a lot of weight and have an emergency dump option. I find them to be cumbersome. The Compact weight pockets are what I personally use, they are good for holding about 6 to 8 lbs each, maybe 10 but it might be a tight fit. There is no emergency dump option and you will need some kind of OMS Billy Ring or other type of Weight Keeper to hold them in place. They are very streamline when swimming horizontally close to the bottom where as the No Sag pockets tend to hang down a bit. That"s my opinion, hope it helps.
PETER M Personally, I don't recommend using weight pockets on the harness. I have mine on a separate belt, and small ankle weights (I dive a drysuit). The reason I say this is that you may need to ditch weights in an emergency and the harness takes too long to deal with. Also, if you are thin like me, there isn't much room left on the waist band for pockets when you cinch it down. Another downside to putting weights on the harness is that the combined weight of the tank and weights is very unwieldy to haul into a boat or lift onto your back out of the water.
That being said, I do have a couple of OMS pockets I use on the harness from time to time for a safety sausage and john line when I'm diving from a boat in current and rough conditions. You will need some keepers to prevent them from sliding off inadvertently.
If you are set on putting weight pockets on the harness, make sure they are easy to access and have velcro and a pull tab you can feel through gloves in case you need to ditch some weight. Also, I don't recommend the type that has a bottom dump velcro, as they sometimes catch on things and dump weight when you don't want them to.
Hope this helps.
DAVID F I use an aluminum plate, plus a DUI harness. I don't like weight pockets - and I don't like the weight on my hips.
DWAYNE S Actually I dont recommend any. After a 100+ dives using the OMS quick dumps I converted over to a traditional weight belt. Its difficult to load integrated weight pockets with the BP/W on, so you have to load before you put it on so you are lifting the tank, BP, harness, and weights. This gets real old quick.
VOLODIMIR K I bought OMS weight pockets, but these are so uncomfortable that I ended using a weight belt.
In addition since this harness and BCD are of the technical character weight pockets are not recommended for these dives.
My 2 cents: use the belt and don't buy any weight pockets.
SCOTT F I use the OMS 6lb backplate and the OMS mini weight pockets mounted on the tank. These pockets can handle 5lbs each and maybe more if you use soft weights. If I need more I use a weight belt so I can ditch it if needed.
