I liked this BCD so much that I got one for my son as well. Using the integrated weight system takes practice. There are easy grip handles and plenty of leverage for dumping the weights in an emergency. However, putting the cartridges back into place, ounce they have been removed, does require some finesse. A perfect BCD would have a foolproof mounting bracket to help you push the cartridges into place. Once you do hear the cartridge click into the Oceanic HLC, the weights are very secure.

Although it is much lighter than it looks, this is a very durable BCD that drains really well while leaving the water. The cumberbun is a little oversized for the rest of the unit. Everything else adjusts with great ease. My XL fits a little loose on me while my son's Large is still a little snug on me. My XL should fit perfectly in the spring. My son has no complaints about the fit. The air dumps are located conveniently on the right shoulder and right hip. We love the big pockets, although they might be a little easier to unzip if the openings were a little lower. My son's only source of frustration is in mounting his Wenoka knife onto this BCD. His favorite piece of gear is his dive knife. An Oceanic Spinner attaches to the convenient flaps on either side, above the pockets. I'm not crazy about the Oceanic knife's sheath, but that is another review. A few extra grommets on those flaps or a more standard spacing would help though.

I bought this for my son, same size as his old one, thinking an upgrade would be good,(at present he has an ocean pro 1000D size M,lacks features and not as comfortable, but ample waist adjustment).
The problem with the Probe HLC is the waist adjustment is very limited, even with the waist strap adjusted to it's minimum I could still fit my hand between him and the strap. If your 6' and thin I would not recommend this BC, I think Oceanic have designed this for the vertically & horizontally challenged diver.
Also, the rear weight pocket are mounted on the tank band, when you try to secure the tank strap to the velcro, the strap fouls on the weight pocket and not much sticks to the velcro. The Probe LX had them in a better position.

Comments about Oceanic Probe HLC BCD:

I enjoy freshwater diving in inland lakes and rivers. After two trips, this jacket style BC has done a good job of keeping me upright when I want to be and on my back at the river's surface. I love the large pockets! I wish the cumberbun would tighten a little better. I'm 6'3" and 215 pounds. I got the XL. It should have fit. Maybe order a size smaller?

Comments about Oceanic Probe HLC BCD:

I bought this BCD last year before we took a trip to Bonaire, as a replacement for my son's older BCD. When it showed up it was a bit loose on him, as he's 5' 10" but 135 pounds, so he got my old BCD and I got a new one. The HLC is just excellent; if you're inflating it at the surface it doesn't squeeze you, using the side weight pouches put me in a forward yet upright position when neutral, but it doesn't fight me when I go horizontal, and the BCD allows me to move very naturally in the water. Now that my son has put on some weight he wants the BCD, but too bad, it's Dad's now!

Comments about Oceanic Probe HLC BCD:

Really enjoying this BC. Great idea to get the best of both worlds with a vest and back inflate BC. No push forward like the back inflates, yet easy to get horizontal unlike many vests. This BC is also loaded with all the bells and whistles relative to other brands. Also feels streamlined for a 5'9 medium frame in a medium BC.
