MARIE C No the unit does not need a USB cable. My unit came will it's own unique cable to download the data from the unit to a pc.

ALVARO P Does NOT come with the cable, which is a bit of a a gouge at $80/$90. Although, the computer is amazing for this price. Just amazing. Good luck in your choice!

PAUL B Hi. The answer is yes - the Oceanic Pro Plus 2 comes with a USB interface cable that permits you to download your dive data to the software that is provided. The software is written for Windows. The download is marvelous. All of your data from your dive is included: breathing gas consumption rates, nitrogen tissue loading, O-2 tissue loading, ascension rates, etc. Furthermore, the Pro Plus 2 is EASY to configure for enriched air calculations. Very siple to adjust for what ever blend of NITROX you're diving. I'm extremely satisfied with my Pro Plus 2. The drawback is if you're using a Mac or the Apple OS - it will not run the software. Furthermore, I contacted Oceanic to see if they were planning to release a Mac variant of the software - and the answer is no - they are not. Therefore, in order to run the Oceanic software, Mac users will have to use a Windows emulation program.

Shopper Which zone is this compass calibrated for ? Will it work properly in Mexico, Cuba, and North America?

LeisurePro S This is calibrated for zone 1. It will work throughout north america. Mexico and most of the Carribbean is in zone 2. The compass will still work, but you may have slightly off readings or problems with the needle bending (not as exaggerated as if you were using the compass in say, zone 5).

Shopper Is there a download interface available for a Mac?

LeisurePro S You can use the PC interface cable with a Mac, but Oceanic's OceanLog software is not compatible. You can download a Mac dive program such as JTrak or DiveLog and view your dives using that software.

The Pro Plus 2.1 is a state-of-the-art personal dive computer in classic console form, complete with a Sidescan compass for navigation. It comes ready to use with air or nitrox mixtures up to 50 percent. Since it's air integrated, it keeps track of your breathing gas supply and calculates how many minutes that gas will last, based on your current depth and breathing rate. The two buttons at the base of its display access all of the features/functions of the Pro Plus 2.1. The quick disconnect fitting allows you to remove the console from the high pressure hose when not in use.

The Pro Plus 2.1 offers large, easy to read alphanumeric displays and color coded graphs where green means "go," yellow means "caution" and red means "stop." There is a variety of user settable audible and visual alarms. The computer can be turned on before your dive, but if you forget to do this, it turns itself on underwater. The batteries have a 300 hour lifetime and are user replaceable at any ti me without the loss of data. The computer displays temperature and time of day.
Although suitable for sport divers of any level, the Pro Plus 2.1 has many special features experienced divers will appreciate. It can be used as a computer or depth gauge to 330 feet. It offers both time to fly and desaturation countdowns. It automatically adjusts for altitude and for salt or fresh water.

The Pro Plus 2.1 has alarms for:

Turn around time tank pressure
Ending tank pressure
Maximum depth
Elapsed dive time
Maximum nitrogen
Dive time remaining

I looked at many dive computers when i first went to buy one. After many article and talking to dive stores i ended with the pro plus 2. I love it. I have never had a problem with the computer. I have dove dry suit with it at 40 degree, keys, New Hampshire, Mass, Caymans, i have gone down 117 feet with it and have never had a problem. The only down side is the software it comes with. The software is for uploading all your dives onto a dive book on your comp. it is sometimes hard to get a connection between the dive comp and your comp. It is also a little tricky to put in all of the dives you did before you had the pro plus 2. It is a stubborn program. But the pro Plus 2 is worth every penny.

I used this computer for about a year with great luck. It had any and every feature I could have asked for. Nitrox setup is very good, and the buttons and menus are easy to manuever.HOWEVER, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS. I was talked into this computer for its durability. Recently, the button randomly fell off the unit without being struck or dropped, just taken on a normal open water dive. It consequently FLOODED the whole unit. [...] STAY AWAY!

I bought this computer in 2010 and used it on 2 trips so far, with about 20 dives in total. It is my first computer and I must admit that it took me a little while to get used to the many functions and options that it has, which are all described in great detail in the manual. I have no complaints at all about the device, it has worked great for me so far. However, I notices that one of the 2 buttons on the computer began to stick, but after rinsing it with a weak vinegar solution to dissolve the salt, the problem disappeared. I highly recommend this product to divers of any level.

I used the ProPlus to during my Advanced Certification Dives and I was glad I done so. The large display was very useful for me as the lake we used had very limited visibility. Moreover, the ascent indicator, though it appears sensitive at first, is a great aid for measuring your ascent speed. The add on compass was a large plus during my navigation dives. The ability to switch to metric was a very much needed feature as I am in Europe.

I only gave it 4 flags since there's always room to improve, nothings 100% perfect. With that said this is NOT a plug and play computer for new divers but if you complete the on-line training first you'll be fine. I recoomend the first dive with it should be simple and shallow(+/-30ft)xperienced divers disregard. Once set up it was easy to use and I completed the on-line training material offered by Oceanic. I don't like that it doesn't allow you can't turn it off mannually, that's it hope this helps buyers. I bought this based on the other comments and reviews from this site and other scuba on-line reviews.
