Questions about this item:
Shopper Can this be used as a freediving computer?
SHAWN L Because the unit turns on at 4 feet and it details depth, and time and it holds a log book you should be able to use it to determine freedive depths and times. I do not think it was designed for freediving but it should give you the info you wish.
I have been very happy with my Puck. But it is only used for scuba with me. It is light weight, not too large and the one button system is great!
Shopper is it also a watch?
AVNI A It's a diving compuet, but it has a built in watch feature. But because of its huge size, you can't use it as a wrist watch.
CECELIA T Yes - from the main screen press the button 3 times to get to TIME. It will display time, date and temperature. It does not include daylight savings, so that will need to be adjusted for accordingly from the WATCHSET setting (the next one past TIME). If the computer is out of the water and automatically turns off, then simply press the button to turn it back on and get to the main screen.
WILFRED T Yes, it is capable of showing time in 12 hrs or 24 hrs. However it's a bit bulky for me to use it as a daily watch. It's a durable dive computer.
HARVEY C No. I'd like it if the Puck display could be set to stay on in "wristwatch" mode indefinitely. Although it's much bigger than a real wristwatch, I'd be tempted to wear it during the dive day.
If you want a real wristwatch + computer, I think you'll have to pay more and live with a more difficult user interface. The one-button interface on the Puck is really brilliant-- extremely easy to learn and use.
I just carry the Puck as a backup. Most of my diving is week-long liveaboard trips, and I really don't want to miss dives (or sacrifice safety) if something happens to my primary computer.
STEVE M Yes the puck is also a watch. You just have to scroll to the appropriate page.
DAVID P It displays the time, but I wouldn't use it as a watch on dry land. It's way too big for my liking as a watch, and doesn't have any features you'd usually expect in a watch other than displaying the time (eg, no stopwatch). It is a superb dive computer, and I have been completely pleased with mine, but if you're looking for something that can double as a watch, I'd look elsewhere.
HEINZ W No it isn't a watch. Its a great dive computer due to tha large readouts but it turns off once out of the water.
JAMES D Yes,there is a time function.
Shopper Bob L asks: Does this dive computer start automatically when you enter the water or is it is it have to be started manually?
BENJAMIN K Turns on automatically once your reach a depth of 4'.
Great computer loved it
LEONARDO T You need to switch it on first by pressing its only button. If you are at the surface and don't press any buttons for 10 minutes, it will switch itself off. Once you are below 1.2m, the computer enters dive mode automatically. So you do need to make sure you turn it on before the dive, but then it figures out automatically when you actually started your dive. After a dive, the computer will remain on displaying the minimum recommended time before flying, so for repetitive dives you don't need to worry about turning it on again.
FREDERICK B Starts automatically when you go below about 3 feet.
ANDREW R Auto -- as soon as I start to descend (no idea at what depth or rate of descent).
GEORGE R The computer automatically starts once it is submerged (approximately 3 feet).
WILLIAM S It will start automatically when you drop below about 3 or 4 feet.
SCOTT G It starts automatically.
WADE B Yes, it starts automatically when you enter the water. For the price, this is an awesome dive computer.
STEPHEN S Yes is starts automatically at a certain depth ( I think it might be somewhere between 9-15 ft)
Pau K Does this come with the transmitter?
CHRIS K Mine did not, nor did it need one. This is a wrist instrument. I like mine.
ANDREW F No it does not. The only way to transfer data is to a computer connected to the puck via a cable sold separately. As of now, this puck can not wireless transfer data.
STANLEY D There is no transmitter to your tank, if thats what you mean. That would be a much higher priced item. But if you want a simple dive computer it has been great. Does nitrox too. If you want the computer adapter it is extra. this allows you to down load the dive profiles on computer.....which is fun but the program is just so so. I'd buy it again for basic use, Im still using mine!
RITA R No, it doesn't. But it is a great basic computer with good display. I really like it. I use it as a back up computer for cave diving, transmitters don't work in caves anyway.
SCOTT B Pau, I purchased the Mares Puck Wrist Comp three years ago and a transmitter was not included. Assuming you are hoping to transfer your dive information from the Puck to your personal computer, you'll need a separate cable.
Note, the Puck is a great dive computer that's easy to use and the settings are adjustable, depending on the style of diving you enjoy (i.e, conservative or aggressive to enjoy more bottom time).
I hope this helps and wish you a nice holiday!
AMBRE M Nope. What you see is what you get.
SCOTT K I'm not sure what you mean by transmitter. If you are talking about the USB interface for the computer, then no, it did not come included with the computer when I bought it two years ago.
DANIELLE P If you mean a wireless transmitter for regulating your air, the answer is no.
YOUSRI E Hi,
I actually returned this item as soon as I received it because I selected another computer.
Sorry I cannot be helpful on this ityem
Happy Holidays
Alex
JEFF R No. this isnt designed to monitor tank pressuresor consumption rates.
CHERYL S Not sure what the transmitter is....mine did not come with a transmitter.
Shopper Can this be changed temp from celius to Imperial??.Richard
KRZYSZTOF B yes ,and its easy, on desply shows metric because this computer was made in italy,so they tasted in metric ,Kris
DAVID F No, it cans be set in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit
FRANK J Yes it can. You must access the SET DATA option, cycle through until you get to the C (Celsius) - M (Meter) display, then hold down the button until the display flashes. Once flashing you can click the button once more and it should toggle between the Imperial and Metric modes. I've had mine for only 6 months but i wish I'd have bough it earlier. mode. Hope this helps and enjoy!
DANIEL Z Yes. Within the setup function...hit the big red button and scroll through the various menu's. At SetDive (I believe), hold it down for a couple of seconds and go into the SetDive submenu. You can set temperature to Celsius or Fahrenheit. You can also set depth to meters or feet.
STEVE D Not that I am aware of, but then never had to worry about it. I don't recall seeing anything in the manual about this.
HEATH M Yes, it reads in both F and C. You have to use the red select button to choose the setting you want. This computer is so easy to use and I don't use the computer link so don't waste your money on it.
robert m how do you shut it off?
TERRY F After a few minutes of no activity it shuts off to save the battery. When you are diving at depth (3ft. or more) it will stay on untill you surface. Hope this helped, happy diving!!
FRANK J I'll take a look at mine this evening but I think my display goes blank after a minute or two. I did cycle through all my system functions and maybe there is a feature that does an automatic shutdown. I'll look tonight and send another reply. Have only used mine for six dives but I like it already. contact you later - Frank
LARRY E The Mares puck shuts off automatically when not in use after a several minutes. What I like best about this feature is it seem that the Puck does not drain the batteries when it is off, but another computer I have I have to remove the battery.
AVNI A When not in use, it has an automatic shutdown in about 30 seconds
JOSHUA P It will turn it's self off
robert m thanks i figured it did it just took a long time
SHAWN L It should shut off in just a few minutes of being on and out of the water. Touching the one button starts it up again. Never had a problem with mine and have even changed the battery once.
BRYAN T It will turn off on it's own after you quit diving and time passes. It does the AC flight countdown but this does not drain it much. I have had mine for almost two years and over a hundred dives an it is going strong.
BRIAN N From what I remember it shuts off after 5 minutes after you are out of the water.
ANNE K It shuts off on its own after a time. I love this computer!
SAMUEL W The unit automatically powers down after a period of inactivity so long as you are not underwater. The only way it will power down underwater is if the battery were to run out!
Thus, if you later review your dive logs you don't need to worry about powering it down. It will do so on its own.
JUSTIN H It shuts off on it's own after you desat. If your just messing around with it out of the box, it will just turn off by its self
EDGAR B Did you turn it on by pressing the red button or you dove with it?
If you submerge the computer it will shut down when decompression time is over
If you push the red botton, it will shut down after 5 to 10 minutes
Hope it helps
MIKE G It shuts off automatically after a minute or so of non-use.
GREG e In one question it said
" using the cable and software listed under accessories"
Does it come with the cable and software needed to put on a pc?
WENDY W Mine did not come with a cable or software. That would be nice to have. It is a good computer though....very easy to use :)
GREG e what are you selling it for Shawn?
SHAWN H Actually, I purchased one from leisure pro and dint like it. When I tried to return it they refused. I still have it and can sell it...
And no, I don't think it comes with a cable.
BRIAN G No, it doesn't come with the cable. You need to buy the cable separately.
CHRISTIAN L Greg,
It does. I can't tell you how good the SW is though, because it's not compatible with Mac...
The computer is a little big, but overall is pretty good. Hopefully one of these days, I can actually download the data onto a computer.
Good Luck.
STEVE D No - It did not come with the cable and software needed to put on the PC, but I will say since I bought it in 2008, I love it. It is incredibly easy to use.
BRIAN M No, I don't believe it does. This is a very easy computer to use. It was a great purchase. I have used this computer around 30-35 dives. Love it.
GREG e thanks brian yes I beleive Ill be buying this one. Tell me have you thoughts on a camera at all. I have one in mind but other peoples thoughts are good to know.
Thankyou
KAREN H The Puck does not come with the cable or software to put it on a PC. It must be purchased separately.
GREG e Thanks Karen, would you have an idea where to get this from?
GREG e Sorry Karen, I just read about it thanks for your help. While youre here, do you have an opinin to a good camera, without breaking the bank, Ive read so many reviews about all sorts.
KAREN H I bought the sealife 1200 and love it. I am technically challenged and I can use it. I have let "real" photographers use it and they love it and the pictures are great!. I bought the package with 1 strobe and it comes with a wide angle lens for $ 799. The wide angle really takes some nice pictures.
GREG e Yes that was one camera I keep looking at. I wont get it with the strobe for now. Very new to this sport and my photography is not much better. I thank you again for your help.

Like to wear your computer on your wrist the new Puck series computers are perfect for those in need of pure ease. The Puck is a full function RGBM dive computer with larger digits for easy reading and backlight on demand, single button to smoothly scroll through the menu options. Keep on your wrist or pop into one of the Puck consoles for maximum mounting options. The Puck 2 Computer uses Mares-Wienke RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubbles Model) algorithm. The RGBM takes into account the phenomenon of micro-bubbles in order to prevent their formation. In over 10,000 real dives monitored by Dr. Bruce Wienke in the Los Alamos laboratories, the formation of micro-bubbles has been studied and evaluated in order to better understand the mechanism behind how micro-bubbles are formed during a dive. Today it is the most evolved algorithm for reducing the formation of micro-bubbles without compromising dive times. The easy excess push buttons allow the diver to operate the computer in all conditions, even when wearing thick gloves. Navigating through the computer programs is extremely simple and very intuitive. There are three special function modes of Air, nitrox and Bottom Time. The Mission Puck 2 Console has a maximum depth display of 492' (150 meter), a memory capacity of 38 hours, runs on a user replaceable 3 Volt CR2450 lithium battery, power indicator, back lighting for low light conditions, has a plan mode display, can be used in both imperial or metric units, fresh or seawater settings, residual nitrogen reset, option to exclude audible alarms and uncontrolled ascents", has an ascent rate indicators and is altitude adjustable. The Puck also has a watch, date and temperature functions. The Puck has an optional USB interface for logging dives on your PC, SKU: MRSPCNMW PC Interface. The Puck knows that not all of us who dive are young and in peak condition, it address this with precautionary program settings that allow individual adjustment to more conservative dive profiles if needed. When you do multi-level, multiple dives during a single day or multiple dives over several days you can choose different setting levels in order to adjust your computer to a more conservative dive profile. The Puck has superior display readability. In order to offer an easy-to-read display Mares produced a wide computer display, with intense backlighting and high contrast. The computer featuring illuminated, oversized digits. Special attention is paid to maximize the viewing angle, to eliminate angular distortion and to always grant the best readability. Puck Wrist comes with a User Manual and has a 24 month limited warranty.
