I bought these after having to hike a 1/4 a mile to the dive site in full gear. I like having something more solid under my foot and the arch support they afford makes them more comfortable for me. I wear a shoe size 11 and bought these as 10s from the comments people made on them. Good thing. They could be just a skosh longer but I think the 11s would have been way too big in volume. Only dived them 5 times since the purchase so I won't know about durability for a bit but they appear to be quality made and they were an excellent price.

I bought these mail order without trying them on, and wish I had. They're very well-constructed with a thick outsole and a surprising amount of foot support. The heel cup really makes your foot feel more secure. They almost feel like hiking boots, these would be perfect for walking across lava fields in Hawaii.

However, because of their rugged construction and thick sole, they don't fit into my Apollo Biofins. Unfortunately I have to send them back. The sizing is very large - I wear a size 12 shoe, ordered an 11, and I'm swimming in them. A 10 would probably do it, but a 9 wouldn't be out of the question. A little velcro patch to keep the zipper up would also be nice, but I haven't used these in the water so don't know if that's really an issue. They're also quite heavy (~ twice the weight of a thinner-soled boot), something to consider with the new weight restrictions on airlines.

A great rugged boot, but oversized, heavy, and too large to fit in the toe box of my fins.

Comments about Mares Trilastic 5mm Dive Boots:

I usually wear a size 8 medium and after reading the reviews that this boot ran large, I downsized and ordered a 7. The 7 fits snugly (length and width) on land while walking, and just right in the water, so the 7 fits like a 7-1/2 to an 8 US. An 8 might have worked as well, and fit like a roomy 8-1/2 or a 9 US. I suspect the boots are truer to size in the middle sizes, and get progressively more oversized in the larger sizes. The overall shape of the boot is very good. Construction appears to be top notch. The heel cup is soft and low enough there is no Achilles pinch from the boot when kicking.

Comments about Mares Trilastic 5mm Dive Boots:

These are a great pair of boots! I am a womens size 10 so I bought a size 8 and they fit wonderfully! I have only done a couple dives with them but I don't find the zipper to undo at all which I was worried about since there isn't a clasp or anything to hold it up. They are quite durable and comfortable!

I wear these for everything now. I really enjoy the 'sneaker' fit and sole. I've used these in 82 degree and 64 degree, and in between without a problem.
