I purchased these to use in Nome Alaska. My Daughter informed me that the most important item to bring was waterproof hiking boots as the weather was very rainy and any excursions onto the tundra would require such.

I was not going to spend big bucks for something I would never use again when I realized that my SCUBA hard soled boots were waterproof and if I had insulating and water resistant socks I would be OK.

I was right. I wore the Lavacore socks in my SCUBA boots and in a pair of Keen's and never had cold feet.

Since then I've worn them diving and find them easy to put on and they make slipping on wetsuits much easier. They also add an additional layer of warmth. Most appreciated in circumstances that often find temperatures at or below 50°F

These socks are great for full foot fins. Keeps your feet warm however, for some reason they retain the stink (dead fish) after diving and rinsing them in the rinse tank that had pinesole type product for the stink. I had to wash em with woolite soap in my cabin to get the stink out.
Was on a 10 day live aboard and wore these with my new Aqualung hotshot fins (poor quality, rubber pieces started becoming unglued).
Kept my feet warm enough in water temps of 72 to 86. I bought them cause unlike thin lycra socks they're thicker so less chances of blisters, warmer and they had a rubberized grip pattern on the soles. Unfortunately the rubber started wearing off after day 3 of the 10 day cruise. I guess it was the textured paint used on the deck that really did them in.
I was interested in a Lavacore vest for extra warmth but wonder how bad it would stink after the rinse tank.

I bought this pair of socks to wear over my pair of injini toe socks for a cold weather obstacle mud run. I'm still experimenting with it so that no water gets in the sock since it is waterproof. It's very warm before it gets wet but the snug fit restricts some bloodflow when i wear the extra pair under them.

i use these in place of neoprene booties. great! works w my full foot fins (not too bulky) or open heel fins (just enough cushion) diving in the Denver Aquarium. nice grippy soles but not a lot of extra padding on the sole. feel great & toasty. thinking of using these as socks for winter bike riding also!

Comments about Lavacore by Oceanic Socks Unisex:

Purchased prior to a week long live aboard trip in Chuuk. At 4 - 5 dives per day for a week everyone but me had some blistering on their feet from constant immersion and light abrasion. Some had very painful blisters. These "socks" provide a critical interface between foot and boot. My fins felt so comfortable that I kept reaching down to tighten the heel straps because I thought they were loose -- they weren't loose it was just that they felt so comfortable with the socks on. I dive with these 100% now. This is a great product.
