One bright light for the money. My buddy uses the 3W as a primary light, and it works well. I also have the 3W version and it is still going strong. This version uses AAAs, and runs for 5+ hours on a charge. I love these cheap, bright, durable lights. Plus Intova has very strong customer support which I have not needed.

buy the L-600 or the newer IFL 660

look on the packaging for something that says " Concentrated Power Beam"

I purchased the compact torch after losing my L-600, the specs were the same (at the time) 130 lumens, however the power beam on the L-600 is tightly focused and can be used on a shallow reef dive, where as this compact torch is only good at depth 40+ feet. I would gladly trade my compact torch for any other light on the market, it is that useless!

I bought three of these compact intova torch.. but two are immediately out of order because of leak at the press button in the back.

Nova version was changed to sliding type button...

This light is sweet. It makes a great backup and or 3rd light. You can easly use this as a primary light at night in OW. Very bright with nice hot spot and halo. It is very compact and easy to store as a back up. Light weight as well. Comes with a great switch (push button) that will not get turned on by mistake. Great light.

Check the dimensions on this light. I was expecting something smaller since it runs on 3 AAA batteries.

On the other hand the thing is solid and well engineered. As others have mentioned the beam is tighter than most and may not be suitable as a primary light. The on-off button uses a magnetic interface so there is no o-ring there to fail. The electronics seem to incorporate constant current DC-DC conversion. You get a high, low and off setting, nice. The light works well on NiMH rechargeables.

The battery compartment provides double o-rings for extra leak proofing.

I have two criticisms. First, the light could be smaller considering it runs on AAA batteries. Second, using an odd number of batteries is inconvenient. Batteries come in 4-packs and chargers work on even numbers of batteries. Why not design the light to use 2 or 4 batteries, not 3.
