Shopper I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?
ANDREW I I picked it for the range that I usually stray from the anchor. Experience has shown me that if you don't have at least 20-30 ft of vis AND some structure to orient you, don't count on the unit. It is great but should be a backup and not primary navigation tool.
RAY T I didn't really "pick" this one. This was the only one I knew about. I dive Southern California where the viz is often 10-15 feet in the Spring. I had talked with a few other divers who had the Dive Tracker System. I actually ended up subsequently purchased the manufacturer's (Desert Star Systems near Monterey, California) larger system, with more range. Although it doesn't work well all the time (I suspect heavy kelp interferes with the readings), it works most of the time. If asked for advice, I would advise buying the smaller receiver and the larger transmitter. I've been told by a very experienced diver who is a PhD physicist that the range is determined by the transmitter. He uses the larger transmitter with the Scout's smaller receiver. The larger receiver that I use, however, seems to be better constructed and easier to use since it has an LED bar to determine distance. However, use of the larger receiver means that I'm carrying around a brick in my b.c. But then, it'll mean 1 lb off my weight belt.
KEVIN W Least expensive. Works ok.
STAN G I purchased it because of the size and the cost. Handy little item.
EDWARD D the tracker meets all my needs as a recreational diver. I dive for lobster off of our boat and while i am diving the anchored boat is always changing it's location. i use the tracker to not have to concern myself with where the boat is located. The tracker takes me to the boat effortlessly. i recommend this product
DAVID D I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I picked it because it would be handy when trying to find a work spot.
DANIEL S only unit found on the market.
Works well.
KENNETH K My dive buddy and I have friends with this system, and we bought two receivers and one transmitter. With more than one transmitter hanging from the boat the signal is much stronger. If I were to do it again, I would buy the larger transmitter and the smaller receiver. Have fun.
NAWFAL E I needed to use something I can use while spearfishing. You set one unit at the anchor and the other one you keep with you to help you get back to the anchor.
SAMUEL S I was disappointed with this product. It didn't work very well. I called the manufacturer and they were very nice and suggested I upgrade to the scout.
