Shopper can this be used as a primary regulator

LeisurePro S No, octopus are not subjected to the same tests as primary first stages and are tuned to a higher breathing resistance than primaries. Check out this Cressi regulator which is the same level as the XS octo.

Shopper What is the purpose of the pre dive/dive switch? What does it do?

LeisurePro S The switch moves an internal fin to deflect the air flow to minimize the chance of free flow at the surface.

Shopper can this octopuses be used with nitrox?

LeisurePro S Yes, this one can be used with Nitrox up to 40%.

Shopper Is this regulator safe to use in cold water? Would it be safe to use in California where the water can get as cold as 48?F?

LeisurePro S Unless you had the regulator environmentally sealed, the coldest it would be recommended for use would by 50F.

Shopper Are all Octopus standard and can simply screw into any 1st stage?

LeisurePro S Yes, any octo will screw into most any modern first stage without issue.

I have used this Octo for over a year as a Dive Master and on my own trips. It functions perfectly, is easy to adjust, and the flow adjustment actually works. My wife has used in pool and open water practice (Bonaire) and really likes it. I am buying her one as well. I spoke to a service rep at Cressi who told me it is actually built for 50% O2. So it is way above standard for enriched air diving.

I have an issue with this equipment every time I dive. For the most part it's a good solid octo, when it's in your mouth. But no matter how I adjust the the thing it manages to free flow or have a solid leak of air almost every time I dive. The unit is brand new and I'm not impressed at all. My reg is a delta 4 and ofcourse there is no comparison but you still expect it to function properly.My advice is spend a few extra bucks and save yourself the headache.

Let's face it you don't want to drop big bucks on the octo but you do want it to work w/o free flow. The free flow adjustment for an octo is great. Turn it to - and it never is a problem. We don't notic any difficulty breathing this way either. If it does just adjust to +. We clip it using one of those mouthpiece holders to keep it from dangling. I hope we nor anyone else ever needs the octo but if they do I'll be glad we have this Cressi XS.

It's a very basic occie. It was recommended to me by a mate of mine, who did over 1000 dives and knows a lot about gear. It's easy to fix when it break, cheap to service but it is fairly large. Could be used as a primary. In fact, my primary is exactly the same. Maybe I'm a cheap skate.
