Questions about this item:
Dave T With travel in mind...
What are the weight of a pair?
What is the length?
TOM B I have not put them on a scale nor measured them. They were not a problem to travel with any more than other sets I have owned. If you need specifics the company website may have the technicals.
brian k do you recommend these (with the spring heel strap) for use without boots/shoes?
ROY A I have been diving for 40 years and would suggest that you always wear boots as you never know when there will be broken glass, a scorpion fish or broken coral fragments during a shore entry. On a boat dive they can be the diference between a bruised toe or broken one from slipping on a tossing deck or careless buddy dropping gear. That said, I really enjoy these fins and think they are the best I have owned. The spring makes them easy to put on in all conditions and I find less fatigue on extended swims. I think they would not be suitable without boots because of the hard rubber heal. good luck
MARK G These are great fins, I'm currently using a pair I've had for about 4 years. That being said I would not use these with the spring strap without boots or socks.
STEPHEN K no i would not buy these if you are planning not to wear boots. these style fins are meant to only be worn with boots.
LEE B These fins are made to use with boots. Atomic does make a very nice full foot split fin if you do not want to use boots. Scuba Pro also makes a very nice full foot split fin.
KRIS K no, it wouldn't very comfortable, the foot pocket and heel cup are hard plastic, they would be wearable and would work but, I would think that plastic would rub and your foot may not fit securely into the foot pocket
BARRY P I would not recommend any open heel fin to be worn barefoot. They're not designed for that purpose, the Atomic being no exception. If you want to fin barefoot, buy a full foot fin - Atomic sells those as well in their split version.
RICK H These require that you wear a boot. They would eat your heel if you wore them without boots..
Shopper What type of atomic split fin with totally black color as in the profile, is it standard or smoke on the water?
JOEL D these are the smoke on the water fins
great fins
STEWART R Smoke on the water is the total black fin with springs as straps. A little stiffer than their regular fins but nothing faster or turns better. Wonderful with currents. No leg strain.
TOM B If you go to the Atomic web site, they show in full color the available model and colors. I ended up with the silver model, but got the smoke on the water spring strap. I am very pleased with them.
Re W I thought it was black-brownish grey, not totally black. Is that new smoke on the water ( full black)?
Jason S I wear size 11 us shoes. My dive boots have a 1/4 inch thick sole on them. Im not sure what size to get, LG or EXLRG?
I dont want them to tight but what happens if their to lose?
ROBERT C Size 11 with a standard bootie and not the thick molded tennis shoe like sole go with the large.
DARCY B You would need a size XL, 10-11 is a large so if you booty has a big sole on it go XL if it's a warm water bootie go large. The most important thing to know if that you will NOT have Atomic's warranty if you purchase through LP, always go through an authoirzed dealer.. that's a lot of money for no manufacture warranty...
JAMES J I've had these fins for a while and I like them a lot. I've worn them with thicker and thinner boots and haven't noticed a problem. I'm a size 9.5 so I'm pretty much in the middle of the large size. My impression is that loose would be more of a problem than tight. The spring closure just might not hold well if the fin is too large.
DANIEL W I think most fin manufacturers factor in for the size of your booties. Fins like this must be worn with booties so I would just go with the size that you would normally wear for you shoes.
These fins are awesome! They are a little heavy but they are really nice, well made and great!
Omer S Would you recommend XL for UK size 13 feet?
WALLY S Hi,
I am not familiar with UK sizes. My size is US 1O, continental 42. My fins are usually medium size, but AA fins required 1 size larger - L. Still, they split on the top (which turned out inconsequential). The only way to get the right size of fins at first try is to try them on with the booties you use.
Wally
Omer S Thanks. It was helpful
WILLIAM C I'm not sure. You might need longer straps.
MICHAEL G It depends on your boot you are wearing. The best way to answer your question is for you to go to a local scuba shop, try on the fin with your boot.
Then come back to this site and save money.
They are an awesome set of fins, allows you to cut through the water without much exertion.
STEVE M I am not sure about the UK conversion, but with a dry suit, I use the XL fins with a US size 10 1/2 foot.. The drysuit boot would probably handle a 11-12 --so it may be close. I wish I could provide more information for you, but I think it is going to be close for a wet suit bootie, maybe too small for a heavy dry-suit boot.
Michael R I am a soldier stationed in Germany and I wear European size 42 boots, both hard and soft sole. Will one size of these fins fit over both types of boots?
EMILIO F I have the medium size version of this fins and have both a soft sole and a hard sole boot in a size 7 (USA). The soft sole fits easily but the hard sole (Henderson Gold Core) is a struggle to fit in this fin but it does (I don't recommend it). My teenage son wears a soft sole boot in a size 11 (USA) and he is able to slip his wet boots in this medium-size fin but it is a struggle. (He does get a kick (pun intended) in using my AA Split Fins. My conclusion -- soft sole boot works well as long as the fin size is paired with the corresponding soft sole boot size. PS The fins really work -- less effort and more speed! PS2 Thanks for your service to our beloved USA!
WILLIAM C I?m not sure what 42 European coincides with in U.S. measurement. However, you will need a boot in order to wear these fins. I wear a thick felt sole boot designed for spear-fishing, I am very comfortable. My dive partner has a wider foot, tried them on with his standard design boot and thinks they were too tight. Hope this helps.
ANDREW E Michael,
Thank you for your service.
These are a very good and powerful fin. They will fit over both hard and soft sole boots however I wouldn't choose a soft sole boot with these fins as a first choice. Buy them and try with hard sole. Use with soft sole will work but the fin will like the hard sole to get the most out of them. Great Fin!

KENNETH S I wear a US size 12 shoe and when I ordered these fins (X-Lg US sz 11.5-13) I also ordered a pair of the Seasoft Sunray 3mm Low Cut Boots with Zipper (2X-Lg US sz 12) I have not problems fit the fit into the fin or my foot. I like the fin/boots that I bought they are comfortable and work great. Hope this helps.
DANIEL W Hi Michael,
I have had these fins for about 2 years now and they are really amazing. They are really well made, but a little bulky.
I have extremely wide feet (EEEE Width) and they fit me great with hard sole booties. I have not tried them with soft sole booties but I don't think it would be a problem.
I hope this will help you a little!
STEWART R Euro 42 will fit fine both hard and soft with a large fin. Best fin on the market.
KRIS K I have these fins and wear them with thin, soft sole boots for warm water diving and with my drysuit. They are a little snug with the dry suit but the spring does a good job of accommodating.
Lynn G If you have a hard sole boot size 10 what size fin do you recommend?
CHAD N Go with the large. I usually go with a size 7. I got the large and they were too big for me. If you wear a size 10 the large should work well.
ROBERT C I wear a size 12 and use the XL Smokes
LEE B I wear a Sea Soft Med hard sole boot and have Large Smokes. It's a snug fit. For a size 10 I would suggest an Extra Large.
Shopper I have DUI dry suit rock boots that are size 11. What size?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the XL.
Shopper What are the diamensions of these fins?
LeisurePro S Weight of pair (kg): 2.10, Length (cm): 69, Width (cm): 23
Shopper I ware a 7.5 wide shoe. What size fin should I get? How much of the boot should stick out at the end of the fin?
LeisurePro S I would recommend a medium. The back of the fin should hit between the arch of your foot and your heel.
Shopper I have Henderson men's size 11 hyperstretch boot with a thick sole. What size will I need in the atomic smoke fins?
LeisurePro S I would recommend an XLarge.
Shopper What color are the smoke on the water fins? They look black here but brown and black elsewhere.
LeisurePro S The smoke on the water fins are a black/brownish gray combination.
Shopper what is the differance with atomic split fins? (smoke on the water are 200 and silver and others are 160? why? can you justify the price differance. im interested in getting some just dont know which one
LeisurePro S There are two major differences between the "regular" split fins and "smoke on the water". The Smoke on the Water fins are made using a higher quality polymer in the foot pocket and side rails than the regular fins. Additionally, the smoke on the water fins come standard with spring heel straps.
Shopper are the atomic splitfins the same as the splitfin "smoke on the water" with only the color pattern being differerent?
LeisurePro S There are a few minor difference. The two main differences are the material they're made out of and the heel strap. The "smoke on water" fins are made from a slightly different polymer mix that is a bit more flexible (easier to kick, less energy expended/leg cramping) than the material of the regular atomic split fins. The smoke on water fins also come equiped with spring heel straps, making them super easy to take off and put on (especially when wearing thick gloves) whearas the regular atomics come with the standard adjust heel strap.
Shopper On the Atomic Aquatics split fins and smoke on the water fins (open heel), what are their buoyancy characteristics? Are they positive, negative or neutrally buoyant?
Warranty Information
This product has a limited warranty of 12 months.
Split fins have become the most popular style fin in diving today. Just look around when you are out beach diving or on the charter boat and you will soon discover that more divers are making the switch to this style fin. Why are they so popular? They are popular because they work, and you, work less! A split fin performs more like the combination of a whale's tail and a propeller. When you kick the two separate blades twist and create more of a propeller surface which will increase your propulsion and lift. You feel as if the fin is not strong enough to keep you moving as fast as you are accustomed with your full bladed fin, yet you cover the same distance in the same time. Less drag, more thrust and most important less strength is used. The split fin design is not only unique; it uses the latest technology in composite plastic polymer materials to give a light fin (Great Travel Fin) and one that increases thrust and reduces fatigue. Fin is equipped with EZ-LOK Buckles which snap on and off with ease, yet will not disengage accidentally, and the new spring strap. So make the switch and use less effort which equates to less air usage and longer more comfortable dives.
