Shopper I'm looking for a backup pressure gauge to use along with my Aeris Elite T3 Wireless Computer. I know that you usually get what you pay for, so the price has me a little worried... Would this be a good backup, or would it be better to get a 2 gauge console (pressure/depth) as this combo could get me to the surface safely should the need arise...?
Any thoughts would be helpful.
JAMES K Pressure gauges are pretty simple devices plus it would not make much sense for Mares to tarnish their name with an inferior product so I think this gauge is as good as any.
If your computer failed and you wanted to continue the dive, then you would need the two gauge console. I use a wrist mounted computer and this pressure gauge tucked into my BC pocket.. I don't like a console hanging under me. I haven't had a computer failure but if I did, I would abort the dive.
GREGORY A The Mares seems well suited to its use as a backup spg. It comes with boot and 33 inch hp hose so I can clip it low and out of the way and not worry about scratching it. The face is 2 inches across and easy to read. Readout matches my air integrated computers.
I dive self sufficient and always have 2 computers, one AI and one wrist. This is my backup for primary computer failure so that I can safely continue the dive. If you were going to use dive tables as your backup then a 2 gauge console w depth would do.
ed n I like it becuase it is small and compact. The gauge is accurate and seems solid. I have only used it on a couple of dives. Should my computer fail I would end my dive and make a slow ascent to the surface with my buddy and gauge my safety stop off of him. I am debating getting another before the sale is over.
DANIEL B This thing is a nice little gauge. Well made, solid, feels well constructed and easy to read (even with the small size). It has a glow in the dark face, and while the numbers are small, the gauge is readable with the shaded zones. The clip makes it easy to attatch to the BCD out of the way. I currently use it as a backup to my ICON HD. As with any "back-up" you need to weigh the usefullness of the back up vs. the added risks of attaching another HP device to your first stage. I'm going to continue using it until I feel more comforatable with the integrated air on the Mares ICON.
