Questions about this item:
Rockney M When the SL is not in the "power reducer" is it still just as powerful as the SL Star? And which would you recomend for shooting large grouper, hogfish, cobia, etc?
JONATHAN G I would shoot on max power just to get a feel for the power. If it is getting good penetration then you could back it down. I shoot 5lbs - 65lbs channel/blue catfish on high and shoot 20 plus inch long walleye on low. If I shoot the walleye on high it goes all the way through the fish to including the washer and plastic keeper . So to answer your question "I don't know it depends" I will recommend upgrading the plastic keeper that comes on the shaft to something similar to the JBL spring style as it tends to break off on impact with rock. Also upgrade shafts to stronger style as they have the potential of bending then it could mess your bore up. But that is with any air gun. Hope this helps. Check out TheDiversEdge on facebook
CLINT N It's is a great gun I have 3 of them. It is powerful. Hogfish should be fine but cobia you might want a little bigger gun and reel.
OMAR R Yes, I can recomend this device, I'm still using with a great results 100% recomended

Shopper When the SL is not in the "power reducer" is it still just as powerful as the SL Star? And which would you recomend for shooting large grouper, hogfish, cobia, etc?
PASCAL G I seldom use the reducer it is great for hogs and grouper! The best advantage over some other guns is the sturdy spear ie the mares makes a similar gun with a skinnier spear that tends to bend easily.
RALPH F I Don't know about the sl but the sl with power reducer does a great job for me, I've hunted grouper, flounder, hogs and it is great. I don't shoot cobia as you really need a reel for them. I chose that model for ease of loading too as the longer one would be harder to load and a shorter one don't have enough velocity.
Goog luck and good hunting friend!

DAVID C Hello, I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the Cressi SL. This is the second SL I have owned. The first, i used for a couple of years and lost it in a battle with a large red snapper under a bridge span my shot of about 16' was not a kill shot but, it was all I had . My guess is, the spear line got cut in the fray, the lanyard around my wrist broke the ( not so well made) plastic eye that it went through on the gun. Under the bridge span in tight quarters, it got dusty quick I got the snapper but lost the gun I suspect it floated away. Instead of sinking like a teak band gun. Still I bought a new one ( there great for traveling ) Enough fish tales and the gun that got away. The cressi SL is a great gun. But, can be difficult to load for some. The second gun I have is significantly more difficult to load than my first it may be because it's new and may need some adjustment, Im not sure. It does seam to have more pop in unreduced mode , I would recommend using the reduced mode for in close reef type fishing the range seems to be best at 12-14 feet for good kill hogs grouper snapper easy kills, amberjack and other pelagics with the big and hard gill plates, sometimes good penetration is tough. I shoot a little father Back on them. You end up with a fight on your hands but, the penetration is better and you lose fewer fish. We all know that feeling watching a badly wounded fish swim away because the shot didn't hold. My review. **** 4stars. Comments...... It needs a stonger keeper and more in depth operation/tuning instructions. I upgraded the factory spear to a better steel. Its a buy in my log book.
CAMILO P I do not know how powerful is the SL star, but I find this gun very powerful for its size, and it has always been enough for me. I am not an open water diver, but generally spear close to the shore and on shallow reefs or rock formations. The power reducer is a great feature for hunting very close to the reefs or under the rocks. It is still quite powerful and it goes much easier on your spear when you hit the rocks. For shooting large grouper I will not use the power reducer option unless you are shooting from very close range.
Shopper The shaft is described as being 8mm, but the thread diameter is not specified. Is it a 7mm or 8mm thread?
JAMES B The thread dia. for the Cressi SL shaft is 7mm. You will need spear tips that have 7mm threads or you can get an adapter that has 7mm female threads and 6mm male threads so you can use the 6mm tips that other guns have. I have both so that I'm covered each way. Some dive shops don't carry the 7mm tips as a stock item.
DANIEL A Im pretty sure it is 8mm. I am in constant search for adapters to go from 8,to 7 and 6mm. It is hard to know what size the tips are too, so usually I just buy the tip I want and keep a couple of adapters on hand just in case.
EMIL C yes the original shaft I got is 8mm and the thread is the same size 8mm.
Shopper What are the differences between the Cressi SL and Cressi SL Star models?
LeisurePro S The SL range is available in two forms - the SL star for full power and the SL with reducer for less power, to give less chance of the spear bouncing back when fishing near rocks.
Shopper How heavy is the Cressi-Sub SL?
LeisurePro S I have a shipping weight of 3 pounds.
Shopper Hello i am new to all this, im looking to purchase a spear gun but i dont know what the difference from the pnemo and the sling ones. ?
LeisurePro S The main difference between sling guns and pneumatic guns are how they get the power to shoot fish. Sling guns are loaded by stretching a rubber band that is released to shoot the spear from the gun. Pneumatic guns use pressure built up in the shaft by hand pumping to shoot the spear. Here is a good comparison of the different types of guns: Spearguns
Shopper I am looking to buy the cressi sub sl and would like to purchase the shock cord to go with it but have not seen it on the web site. Do you carry these?
LeisurePro S Reply it comes with one and if you need an extra one here they are JBL515
Shopper looking to buy one of the Cressi-sub SL, what is the difference in performance between 24'' and 28''? also, does it come with the line or i need to buy it separate? and what kind of a gun pump? is it electrical?
LeisurePro S Gun is pneumatic and will come with the line. The 28" will be accurate for a distance of one foot more than the 24". A gun will be accurate three time the length of the shaft.
