Shopper if i buy a 14+ in a full suit and I need a shorty to go over it as well for diving in cold water...should i purchase a 14+ shorty to do so? Or do you recommend doing an 18 in the full suit and a 14+ in the shorty?
KRISTINE G I dove in 38 degree water and a full 7mm with a 3mm vest underneath was very warm (and I get cold easily). I literally couldn't move with a full 7mm and 7mm shorty combined. If you really want that combo, I would go with the full in the small size and wear the shorty over it. The shorty will need to be significantly larger. Probably an 18 will work. It will be hard to move. You might even be too warm. Good luck.
KEITH H Dear Shopper I am giving you my personal experience. First you can start with a full lycra suit. Then 7mm full suit size 14. Then get a 7mm hooded vest size 14. You will have 14mm on your torse which will keep your vital organ warm. The 7mm will be on your arms, legs, and head. When I went diving in Ohio in Jan with 43 degrees and it was great. May and Oct was the best time to use this suit. Hope this information can help. Diver Keith
PHILIP A Im not a large, but for me, I have purchased both the bare 3mm and the 7mm in the same size and they work fine together. My wife did the same and the 2 work fine for her as well. We're both in the 8-10 for her and mens medium for me.
STEPHANIE K I believe this vest is meant to be put on over another suit. I have a 5 mm full Bare suit so I ordered the same size in the vest and it fits over it just fine.
Tammy C I bought this hooded vest/ shorty to wear over my full wetsuit which is a very worn out 5 mil so probably more the thickness of a 3 mil. I bought the same size hooded vest as my full wetsuit and it is a very tight fit which is fine with me. I would rather it be tight above the water than to have gaps. If I were purchasing it to go over a brand new 5 mil or a 7 mil I would probably go a size up from from whatever the full wetsuit is. Hope this helps!
WENDY M I purchased this shorty to go over my 5mm full suit for cold water diving as well. I went up one size on the shorty and it fits perfectly over my 5mm. If my full suit was 3mm or thinner I would probably have been okay getting the same size for both.
