James H Is this going to be less warm than a straight 5mm? I'm going to be around Puerto Vallarta in January, with temps around 65 f. I'm deciding between this one and the Cressi Lontra - any thoughts? Thanks!
DEAN K Neither a straight 5mm or a 5/4/3mm will keep you comfortably warm in 65 degree water, at least not on a standard 50min dive. You might be OK for 20 minutes or so, but not the full dive. You would be better off renting a full 7mm farmer john suit, and supplement it with a hood, and possibly gloves.
JONATHAN M I dove this wetsuit in Bonaire for 22 dives in 8 days. I found it warm enough and flexible enough to be comfortable in for entire days. However, the water temp was around mid-70's, I believe. If you are going to dive a lot, you may want to go full 5mm.
ROBERT M Greetings James! I've owned and used the Bare 5/4 for several years now and really like it. As with any wetsuit fit will probably effect the overall warmth more than an extra millimeter on the 4mm panels on this suit. The Bare suit also has seals on the lower arms and lower legs which helps limit the movement of water in and out of the suit to increase heat retention; however, if both suits fit equally well I am certain the straight 5mm suit is going to be warmer.
That said, in the temperatures you are talking about I would personally add a decent hooded vest and 5mm booties to supplement either wetsuit. In fact I might even consider moving up to a 7mm at such temps especially if you will be doing repetitive dives...I guess I can't take getting cold after too many years of freezing my butt up in Alaska. Cheers!
CHARLES S i dont think you will notice any difference! however i dive in cozumel in march and i was always cold during the 2nd dive.so i bought a new BARE ELASTEK 7mm full suit and i am very comfortable now
Shopper I have a relative in the islands who wants a suit who dives for lobsters, he usually does it with swim trucks, what will u recommend?
SHANT D hi, for the islands i would recommend 2/3mm since the water is warm all year round.
SHANT D Hi,
I recommend 2/3mm wet suit since the water is warm and 4/5mm will to hot.
THOMAS L This wetsuit is too much. I would recomend Bare's 1 to 2mm. That would be fine. The 3/4mm is too thick and would restrict movement.
Rick T I'm 6'2 and fluctuate between 176-189 lbs. (recently). Pants that are 34" long tend to fit me perfect, though some 33" lengths (depending on manufacturer) are perfect as well.
Looking at the sizing chart I was guessing Large/Tall; would this be correct? My thoughts were that 33 1/2" inseam would be perfect while everything else was right in my range too.
ROBERT C the one I bought fits me well, but I'm 6'4" and 220.I think the only way to really know is to buy it and try it.If it doesn't fit well I'm sure they would let you exchange it for a different size.hope this helps.
Rick T ARI - thank you! I just asked this only an hour or so ago. One of the best things Leisure Pro has going for it is its' community features. Being able to ask fellow divers questions about a product/size is pure genius! It's something not seen in any other store (even of other types of consumer goods). Sure, you see other online merchants have product review systems (some of them remove reviews on items so they sell better - though Leisure Pro does not do this), but none of them have something like this!
I feel more confident about my purchase having you answered my question about sizing (except what the wife is going to say about $238 leaving our bank account). Thank you, thank you, thank you!
ARI S I'm 6'1" and 185-190 and L/T fits me like a glove. Perhaps you will find u have more ankle exposed but a good boot would cover it if u even needed that covered. Its a really well made suit. Bulletproof. Hope this helps. Ari.
Shopper The water here is around 60- 85 degree water depending on depth and time of year. Would this 5mm be relatively warm in the 60 degree water and yet not burn me up at the surface? What would you recommend?
LeisurePro S Well, any wetsuit will make you really hot at the surface, but if you unzip and take the suit off to your waist, that will really keep the heat down. You'll need the 5mm for sure if you are planning on doing 60 degree dives. It will probably be too warm if you are diving in the 80 degree range. I would recommend maybe going in for something like a full 3mm and then layering materials for when it gets colder--a jacket, hood, gloves, etc.
Shopper I'm 5'11' and 265 lb. What size you would recommend?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the 3XL.
Shopper I am 5' 9", 210 pounds, 37 waist. What would be the proper size for me?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the XLShort.

Progressive-stretch is a concept in full-stretch wetsuits only available in the VELOCITY series. It all starts with BARE-Fit, which is the foundation of every BARE suit. BARE-Fit uses ergonomic suit design involving complex shaped patterns with articulated legs and sleeves. From there, zones associated with performance within the suit are selected. Then, proven fabrics are chosen from various prototypes that have been tested for years. By placing the different fabrics in particular panels of the suit, the VELOCITY series delivers exceptional fit, feel and performance. This 5mm wetsuit with 4mm arms and LUMBARE-X-Tender panels, comfortable contoured 3mm GLIDESKIN collar with Velcro adjustment is a combination of three material types, each with their own stretch characteristics, which make it really strong and quite flexible. We call this unique combination of materials PROGRESSIVE STRETCH. Suit is equipped with a heavy-duty back zipper with a skin-to-skin internal sealing flap which will keep the coldest water from entering through the zipper, in addition, internal skin-in flip seals
