I have 2 boys that are not strong swimmers and want to go snorkeling on our vacation. My 10yr old is about 4'9'' and 70lbs, the 7yr old is about 4'6'' and 55lbs. Would they be okay in a small and would this work for beginner swimmers?
Yes, they should both be a small. This is perfect for weaker swimmers, for giving them extra lift in the water.

The waist strap and crotch strap should be able to be fastened comfortably around your waist without the vest riding up too high or too low on your torso. Think of it as if you were putting on a smock or an apron.
