Had this around my neck at all times as a dive master coralling 35+ snorklers in the open ocean on a snorkle boat. They may not hear me yell when it was windy and choppy, but the whilst definitely caught their attention. I always keep in in my BC pocket when diving.

I was in a situation where I had to use this whistle, and no one could hear it until the boat was practically on top of me. Not safe. This was not an extreme situation- a small swell, not especially windy, in the tropics. Luckily I had a large safety sausage.
