I attach the spear to my lobster noose with 2 velcro wire ties. Only one item to carry. Doesn't get in the way when pursueing a lobster. Easy quick to unlatch to spear a linofisn.

16 month ago we found the first lionfish here in Dominica, yesterday I found 9 on the same barrel sponge. The lionfish spear helps us control this pest at least on some reefs; it is small enough that it can be carried routinely on all dives. And with a little practice, it works very well.
Two suggestions for improvement:
-There really should be a cap for the barbs. I use a wine cork to protect my gear from puncture during transport, but that is only a stop-gap.
-The machining of the threads that join barb section and stick could be more precise. I had to add some glue to prevent the barbs from shaking loose.

The short length of the shaft made it difficult to use without getting within inches of the lionfish; that was not always an option. The length of the shaft also makes it more susceptible to friction during the release. We bought a longer spear after using this only one day. I will be replacing the shaft with my own, longer 1/2" fiberglass rod; an extra 12" would make a world of difference.

I find the sling on this to be too hard, perhaps because it is so short.

I would have been better off spending $15 to $20 more and purchasing a larger pole spear and a lionfish tip.
