Questions about this item:
TOM G which one is recommended or fits a Zeagle Ranger BC?
MARGERY M The signal device fits on a standard low pressure hose.
So it attaches between the end of the hose and the power inflator.
I'm pretty sure all of these connections are the same on all regulators and BCs.
It should also fit the "alternate air source" if you will be getting one.
I have one of these guys. It is small and as easy to find as your power inflator.
It has worked on several of my BCs.
It makes a very loud noise, but thankfully I haven't had to use it in an emergency.
Good Diving, Margie
GARY C In my case, the type/model of the BC was not an issue. I use the Atomic Aquatics safe second (SST). I bought the version of the signaling device that worked with the SST. I simply removed the quick disconnect that went to the SST and plugged the signaling device in and then plugged the SST into the other quick disconnect on the signaling device. It would have worked with any BC. The important thing is to get the one that connects to your quick disconnect fittings.
TIM D Oops... Forgot to answer the first part of your question. The DA1 should work with the standard inflator hose found on the Zeagle BC.
TIM D The Dive Alert fits about any BC that uses a standard inflator hose. I use both the Dive Alert AND the Ranger BC, and it works fine. It will add approximately 2 inches to the length of your inflator hose, since it fits in line directly above the inflator purge/mouthpiece. This should not be a concern, and if it somehow makes your inflator hose unmanageable (unlikely), then you can always buy a shorter inflator hose to compensate for the extra 2 inches... For any full size diver, it shouldn't be a noticable difference at all.
For sound, it is IMPRESSIVE!!!! Something every drift or boat diver should carry.
Shopper I have Halcyon inflator. Should I purchase DA1?
Thank you in advance.
JACOB R I'm really not sure. I have a Dive Rite B.C., but the inflator was changed to a Seaquest. This device is supposed to fit most popular inflators. Worse comes, you could always return it.
Monica s As long as you have a standard power inflator it will fit DA1, meaning NOT with the octo integrated with the inflator.
Shopper Does the Zeagle Bx inflator (on a Stiletto LTD) use the regular size Dive alert?
MICHAEL M Either of the following Dive Alert models should fit your Zeagle BC:
DA2X
SeaQuest AirSource 1&2,
Zeagle OctoPlus,
Oceanic Air XS,
Mares AirControl
DA3X
ScubaPro Air 2,
Tusa Duo-Air,
Atomic SS1,
Sherwood Gemini,
Zeagle Octo-Z
DAVE V I have a Zeagle Stiletto and the regular dive alert fits. My BCD is over 7 years old but I am not aware of any changes to the fitting that would affect the dive alert.
Brad A Most of my diving is in quarries and small lakes, so I wouldn't need this on my BCD often. Is it easy to install and remove? Could installing and uninstalling it occasionally cause problems?
TED W I have five that have been in use in our family of divers for years and they still work perfectly. Just rinse well at end of dive. Picked them up when almost left by dive boat in 12 foot seas and it has never been an issue again.
CHRISTOPHER P It detaches and reattaches easily with the quick disconnect. I can think of no problems that would be caused by detaching and reattaching it frequently, unless you get dirt in the connectors or something like that.
However, it's easier to just leave it attached all the time. Even when you don't need it, it's not in the way.
JOEL S The connector is a bit tight for large fingers but the device can be exceptionally valuable in an emergency so I consider the slight inconvenience inconsequential. I don't dive without it no matter what the location. I hope this helps.
CHRIS J It's very easy to pop on and off - same quick fitting as the inflator hose to the BCD.
MICHAEL M The Dive Alert is very simple to attach and detach to the inflator hose with a spring connector; just make sure that you get the model for your BC because all the connectors can be different.
Rene N Will this fit on my Cressi Travelight BCD ? Which one will?
JOEL S Im not sure about your BC. They offer adapters, I suggest you call a shop or your BC manufacturer and check.
Shopper is this compatible with "Oceanic Probe HLC BCD" ? which size should i get?
BITHEL KEITH P I bought mine because it was required by the boat I was diving on. I have been diving for forty years and as I suspected it was something to worry about that I had little beneficial use for me or our group. For this reason I bought the smallest and least expensive one. The small one I bought was plenty loud if you were out on a normal ocean on a normal day and it would be heard better than a loud scream. If you are relying on some thing like this to bring some one to your aid remember like your voice no mater how loud the wind can be louder and if your down wind, which is most likely, it may not be heard at all.
The small one shown here stayed out of the way and is more likely to work than a whistle which I found doesn't work at all if your lips are so cold that they can't form a seal around it.
VICTOR G Hello,
I think it will fit any BCD. Does not work under water.
MATTHEW B It''s a standard BC inflater fitting. I think it should work no matter the BC unless you have an air source.
STEVEN B It connects between the hose and the inflator on your BC. Oceanic BC's should use a standard hose connection. I purchased the one shown for my wife and it works great. At 132 Db it is loud enough for the sound to carry soem distance.
Shopper I have seen people commenting and saying that even though this is only designed for surface use it does work underwater. Is there any customer feedback on this? Does it work underwater? Will it ruin it if you DO use it underwater, etc.
ROBERT L Activating whistle underwater will not damage it. However, the sound created underwater is muffled and barely audible. Really meant for surface signaling only.
KEVIN W It will make noise underwater without being damaged, but it is not very loud, and the sound is very different. When used underwater, it sounds like a duck quacking. Not very useful for getting anyone's attention unless you're very close to them. The Dive Alert is more of a surface signaling device. On the surface they are extremely loud. I do use mine underwater for inflating my safety sausage. The inflation tube for the safety sausage (that you would normally blow into) fits perfectly in the "whistle" of the Dive Alert (where the air comes out of it). When using a safety sausage, I can very easily and quickly inflate it with the Dive Alert before surfacing. That way, you never need to take your regulator out of your mouth to inflate the safety sausage.
DAVID H The original Dive Alert does not make any useful sounds underwater, but won't be ruined if you try.
There are other models that attach to the LP inflator hose (between reg and BCD) that work ONLY underwater, and I believe there is one manufacturer that claims that theirs does both. Personally, I use both the Dive Alert and another kind that works underwater, piggybacking one into the other.
Be are that each manufacturer that makes air horns makes different versions that can couple with different brands of BCD.
WILLIAM W No. There is an underwater signal model, but this will pretty much blow bubbles underwater
JOEL S I have used this version for a few years. It's not designed for underwater use. I believe the dive alert plus has the surface and subsurface capability. I have used it underwater and it has not ruined it but the sound is so muted it is ineffective.
Joel
TUNGAN H It does not damage it to try but does not work underwater.
The unit works like a whistle. The underwater version works like a buzzer(vibrating diaphram contacting the water. This unit has a high pitched whistle and you can hear a little bit of a squeal underwater right next to it, the higher frequency pitch does not propagate through water well. I suspect there is a way to modify it to work both ways but I haven't had time to try.
WILLIAM T This unit only works in open air above water. It like a loud whistle driven by air. It does NOT work underwater. But does work great as a locator.
Hope this helps.
Bill
Shopper Which model works for the Oceanic Excursion? Not Excursion 2, but excursion.
JONATHAN L Sorry, don't know what the airhose fitting on your Excursion looks like. (We bought them for another brand of BC.) If I was in your place, I'd take a good close-up picture of the male fitting where the airhose attaches to your BC and send it to Leisure Pro. The sales people should be able to select the Dive Alert that has the same male fitting. Measurements would also be helpful (length and diameter of fitting).
ERIC D Not Sure about Oceanic Escursion. I have an Oceanic Air XS and purchased this model:
SKU: AQUDA2
Dive Alert Signaling Device, Fits Sea Quest Air Source - Oceanic Air XS - Zeagle Octo Plus (DA-2)
AALLEN I what size will fit the tusa bcj-7000?
DONALD M Sorry Allen, I put mine on a Scubpro Knighthawk. I'm not sure what fits a Tusa.7000
Brett H You will use the DA1 model with this BC.
Debby P Does DA1 work for the following bcd model?
Tusa Platina Evolution BCD, Black (BCJ-3860)
You mean that it doesn't make any sound underwater?
KEN L I believe that there are 3 models of this alert. I use a Sherwood Tortuga BCD, my BC has a standard coupler. It all depends on the coupler you have. I believe that it will work with the Tusa you have you need the DA3 if you have the Tusa Duo Air. As a rescue diver these are great to have especially if you are going boat diving where there is no land in sight like I do off of Hatteras. I hope this helped
Ken
MARENE P I do not have the Tusa BCD. Since the Dive Alert Signaling Device attachs to the inflator hose, it should work on any standard inflator hose. It worked with my Sherwood Luna and Tortuga, my husbands Scubapro ProQD, Zeagle and OMS BCDs.
CLAYTON W No longer doing business with LP due to a failure to back up the products they sell.
ROBERT L Doesn't work uw of course. Works great. Ear piercing...
Shopper I have a Zeagle Ranger BCD. What size/model do I need?
LeisurePro S You will need DA1 if you have the regular power inflator, and a DA2 if you have the Octo-Z combo octo installed.
Shopper What do the different sizes refer to here?
LeisurePro S Different brand BCDs have different size connections on their inflator hoses. You choose your sizes based on your BCD brand or whether or not you have a specific combo octopus/inflator installed.
Shopper can I use underwater? Or just at the surface?
LeisurePro S This is just for use at the water's surface.
Whats in the box:Dive Alert, Owner's Manual DiveAlert is a specially designed, small, light weight air horn that uses quick-connect/disconnect hose couplings to become an integrated part of your power inflator, breathable/inflator and buoyancy compensator. Installation is easy and only takes a moment. Why have DiveAlert? What would you do in a diving emergency if you needed to get the attention of the pick-up boat or someone else on the water's surface? Before DiveAlert SCUBA divers had relied on whistles or a SMB (surface marker buoy) as their only signaling devices in such an emergency. But if the diver is disabled and can't blow into a whistle (or deploy the SMB) the whistle makes no sound at all. Or if the boat operator is not looking in the direction of a diver with a SMB deployed (if the diver was able to even deploy the SMB) the diver goes un-noticed. Equally frustrating (and dangerous), if a diver needs to attract the attention of someone who is too far away to hear the whistle, the whistle is of no help. In contrast, Dive Alert enables divers, at the mere touch of a button, to generate a blast of sound that can be heard up to a mile away! There are three different models available; one for approximately 85% of standard power inflator mechanisms model DA1. There are several breathable/inflator mechanisms that require a larger coupling for a higher flow of air so there are two models to accommodate them. The model DA2X and the modelDA3X (see list below). Installation is easy and takes only a moment. Dive Alert does not require any modification of your other equipment, and it does not interfere in any way with its normal operation. When you need to get someone's attention on the water's surface, you simply press a button and Dive Alert uses a small amount of air from your scuba tank to make a piercingly 132db loud sound; even as little as 100 psi (6.9 bars) will give you a full-throated screech. Dive Alert can be heard from 1 mile (1.6 km) away. DA1 Fits All Standard Inflators DA2X SeaQuest AirSource 1&2, Zeagle OctoPlus, Oceanic Air XS, Mares AirControl DA3X ScubaPro Air 2, Tusa Duo-Air, Atomic SS1, Sherwood Gemini, Zeagle Octo-Z
