Questions about this item:
Shopper Can the filter be installed closer or directly to the second stage? I have seen many cons related to a bulky first stage since the filter is so large? I can't see any reason why the filter could not be installed directly to the second stage, possibly with a swivel fitting so you dont have it extending outward from the second stage.
ROBERT H with an adapter for the "male" end i don't see why it wouldn't work but that would just add one connection that could fail besides the connection this adds already when you connect it to the first stage. I stopped using this filter it didn't do much to help the "cotton mouth" and was a pain to maintain in between dives.
CHRIS W I have mine on the first stage and never have a problem with it being in the way. I suppose you could put by the 2nd just never looked at that option.
ERNEST S Yes, it can be connected directly to the secod stage but I think it would make the regulator more cumbersom as you move your head around. I have used my bio-filter for years without ever having a problem with it connected to the first stage. Any cons I have ever encountered with bulky first stages are usually solved by adjusting the tank height on the BCD. Just think of the filter as a very fat section of hose going to your second stage.
KEVIN S My wife has had the filter in the first stage for the past 5 years, never had a problem. The dive guys in Cozemel did every thing possible to break gear and it stood up to it. Just make certain you have the allen wrench that fits the internal fitting. That is what I had to fix in Cozemel. We do about 40 plus dives a year. Kevin Smith.
LORNE L I do really like the additional moisture the system provides and find myself to be less fatigued after spending the day in the water so I would highly recommend the Apollo Bio-Filter Regulator Moisture System. I have had one of these mounted to my First Stage for the past 5 years and never had an issue with it in Open Water, Caves, Caverns, or Wrecks. I suppose it might be possible to "remote mount" it close or directly on to your Second Stage but I'd be more worried about the bulk of the Second Stage than the Fist Stage. Also jaw fatigue would be a concern when adding this close to the Second Stage.
TOMMY T I have mine mounted on the first stage. It works fine. I didn't use any additional connectors, just right out of the same high pressure port as my reg was previously.
MARK E You would not want that extra weight tugging at your second stage. It works fine on the first stage.
Shopper Can you clean the filter and if so with what?
ALFRED S If I remember correctly, you are just supposed to clean it with water. Cool to luke-warm water. Rinse it, ring it out, and then set it out to dry. Hope this helps
KENNETH R Which filter?: There are two; the white porous moisturizing filter may be cleaned in distilled water, while the charcoal particle filter cannot be cleaned. You must follow the manufacturers recommendations for the number of dives that define the useful life of each filter, after which they should be discarded.
LINDA H Yes you can. I soak it in a mild bleach solution for about 20 minutes, rinse, let soak a couple of times in clean water then let it air dry. I've done this several times to a filter without any problems.
JOSEPH L clean with fresh water t, it recommends to use water with no minerals in it that's the water to use .air out to dry.
JOZSEF S I've never found the need to wash it as I let it dry out completely after every dive trip. I suppose you could use a mild detergent such as woolite if needed.
GIL R The charcoal filter can't be cleaned as far as I know. The moisture part is just a fiber sponge...rinse it in fresh water and let it dry completely and it's good as new.
DAVID N Soak in simple green and rinse well dry if it is bad you may have to soak twice,,,
WILLIAM M I he cleaned mine with a dilute solution of household bleach About 1/4 cup bleach to 3 cups of water) by letting it soak overnight, then rinsing it well and allowing to air dry thoroughly.
Mc
TREVOR A The moisturizing wick should be rinsed with clean fresh water after every use and allowed to dry in a clean dry environment. The charcoal filter just needs to be checked for gross contaminates after every use. The metal filter housing can be cleaned with a mild soap and fresh water and the allow to air dry. The filter is very low mainenace and it is recommended to keep a spare moisturizing wick on hand. If your moisturizing wick becomes contaminated, just replace it rather than using a cleaning agent to clean. Whatever you clean the moisturizing wick with is the same material you will be breathing.
Hope this helps
JOAN T No, you do not clean the filter. You replace it............they last a long time and they sell them at Leisure Pro and are very inexpensive. The replacement package usually comes with the foam cartirdges you need and a filter. In fact, we use Nitrox so we don't even use the filter and we throw our foam cartirdge away after every dive trip. We are on our second Bio-Filters in the past 10 years. I would never dive without them. No more cotton mouth and no more headaches......LOVE THEM!
Ron P Well, I'm not sure if you are referring to the actual filter or the moisture wick, but here goes:
The actual filter is an "Activated Charcoal" filter. It works by absorbing impurities (if any) as the bottled air moves through the Bio-Filter. Absorbed purities cannot be removed from activated charcoal, however, a replacement kit can be purchased for this device that contains new charcoal filters and a new moisture wick.
As for the moisture wick, I would hesitate to use anything but normal tap (or filtered bottled) water to for cleaning; and it shouldn't be necessary. I usually soak the wick in bottled water for use, and, after the dive, I open the Bio-Filter, remove the wick, rinse it well with bottled (or tap) water, and allow it to thoroughly dry. I leave the wick out of the device until its next use. This should prevent any problems with bacterial growth. However, if you do see any discoloration, etc., you can simply replace it with the replacement kit.
Anyway, that's what I do and it has worked well, so far.
Thanks
Ron Patrick
Jaime V I have read that it might be a good idea to mount the filter between a short 6" hose and a normal lenght LP hose. Well I did purchased the 6" MinFlex hose. Now that I have the hoses and the filter, I realized I omited purchasing a coupler to be able to hook up the filter to the adapter, to the 6" hose, then to the 1st Stage. Now, finally to the question, considering that the BioFilter is the 3/8" kind, which adapter do I need? Do I use a hose coupler (the ones used to join two LP hoses together? If not, what do I need to connect the biofilter between a short hose and the normal regulator hose?
KEVIN S I purchased a Bio-filter for my wife in 2007 and i mounted it directly into the FirstStage then connected the reg to it. It has worked flawlessly . We will make 30 to 50 dives per year.
JOSEPH L Jaime best thing to do is go to a scuba store and show them what got and they should help you.
Sajida T Hi,
What size should I purchase for a Scubapro MK25?
Thank you.
THOMAS H I bought the standard size and It worked very well
Tom
CAROL F We have Scubapro MK25 and purchased the 3/8 Bio-Filter. We love ours and WILL NOT dive without our Bio-Filters!
Steve M 3/8" unit for Apeks regulator?
MARK L I assume this will fit on any standard first stage. I switched to several different regs and it has worked everytime. This is a great product if you get dry mouth or headaches when you dive. It administers the correct amount of moisture in your reg. I have had this for a few years already and I think it performs as expected. It's Made in Japan and the Form Fit and function is quality. A+ recommended.
KEVIN S Dear Steve. I put this on my wifes reg. She loves it. It propably has 100 dives on it since I bought it in 2007, I take the filter out after diving, wash it in hot water and put it in a partially opened ziplock bag until it drys. Then seal it up and stow it with the dive gear. When we arrive somewhere to dive, I take a clean glass and fill it with bottled water and let it rehydrate. Put the unit back togther and she is ready to dive. When we could catch a quick trip to the Bahamas, I would have it ready before we left. We would land in Grand Bahama and catch the afternoon dive boat. I recharge it with the squirt bottle every day after diving. Good Luck. Kevin D. Smith
JOSEPH L I HAVE A US DIVER REG FOR THIS ITEM, WORKS GREAT.WITH ITS FILTER FOR BAD AIR AND THE WATER FILTER I PUT IN THE FILTER ,I HAVE NO MORE COTTON MOUTH,NO HEAD ACHES WHAT. A BIG DIFFERENCE WHEN I DIVE IN CANCUN AND COZUMEL. DEEP AND SHALLOW DIVES, THIS ITEM IS A MUST
JOSEPH M Most of the regulators are 3/8 but check the manufactures specs at their website
HALL'S G Thats the size I have for my reg. and it works really good for me
LYNNE G You select the size when you place the order. I purchased this for my Aqualung Legend Reg 2 years ago. It works well, keeping throat moist thru a long dive. It is aluminum, so you must be careful to protect it in dive bag, storage. 1st used it in Cozumel- used water from regular water bottles, took it to room to freshen, soak in bottled water and used a small round plastic covered food container to transport. definitely relieves a dry throat, but takes some care. recommend it!
Shopper how many times can i use one filter. When ? have to change it ?
WILLIAM M The short answer is not simple. If you remove the cartridge and allow it to completely air dry after use and before any type of storage it will last for probably 40-50 dives minimum. If you don't allow it to completely air dry and store it in any type of air tight container it will mildew and ruin after the first use. Hope this helps. It really is a great way to beat dry mouth.
EMILIAN G If I remember correctly the suggested number of dives is somewhere between 30 and 40, but it depends *heavily* on the air tanks condition (e.g. if they are rusty inside the live of the filter is much shorter). Also, please remember to keep it clean and dry between diving sessions.
GIL R I purchased this because I volunteer at my local aquarium and have long dive times...sometimes in excess of 2 hours. I was getting bad headaches and hoped the bio filter would help...and it works fantastic! I don't know what the recommended life on the carbon filter is but I've used my current one for about a year and logged 50+ dives with it. Still no metallic or funny tastes & no headaches. I absolutely love it.
DAVID V Wouldn't that be a question better answered by the manufactuer? I would contact Apollo and see what they say.

Shopper Which size will fit the Beuchat VX-10?
Shopper In the description, it says "Charcoal filter should be removed for use with nitrox". Why is this and what is the consequence of leaving it in while diving Nitrox?
LeisurePro S Originally, the manufacturer discouraged the use of the filter with Nitrox because there was the possibility of combustion. In May '07, though, they revised their manual and now it reads that the filter is approved for use with Nitrox mixes up to 40%. Higher mixes still carry the risk of combustion.
Shopper For Apollo moisture system, I'm not sure what size to order. I have Mares Proton 42 Metal Regulator.
Shopper what size do I need for Sherwood regs?
Shopper Will This Fit On A Mares Rebel 2? If So What Size? Also Is there any maintenance problems with this other than the annual wick replacement? And Do You Just Add Water To The Wick Before Each Dive, Then Remove The Wick To Dry Between Dives?
LeisurePro S 3/8 for the rebel regulator. Maintenance isn't anything complicated other than the filter change and rinsing the apparatice with fresh water along with your regulator. The wick is self wetting, but you do have to remove the wick to dry between dives.

LeisurePro S The 3/8 inch is the standard that should fit most regulators including your MK25/S600.
Shopper how many dives will a wick last
LeisurePro S The manufacturer recomends changing wth wick anually during regulator service assuming it has been properly cared for eg. allowed to dry between dive outings.
Shopper What size do I need for AquaLung conshelf XIV?
Shopper For Apollo moisture system, I'm not sure what size to order. I have ScubaPro MK250 with Mark10.
LeisurePro S You want the 3/8" model for this regulator
Shopper Is it new model or old one? Apollo changed model in 2004, new model can be re-filled without taking the unit off the regulator.
LeisurePro S This is most definitely the newest model.
Shopper Does this need to be installed by a dive tech or is it possible for me to install it myself?
LeisurePro S It is possible to install this yourself with minimal tools (a couple of open ended wrenches) it takes only a couple of minutes if you are familiar with the process.
Shopper will this attachment work with a sherwood blizzard reg. ?
LeisurePro S Yes, but I would not ice dive with it.
Shopper Why Did You Choose This?
WILLIAM M Dry mouth problems.
MARK L After visting Cozumel on my last dive I noticed that I got extreme headaches from the air in the tank and dry mouth. Adding this unit to my primary solved both issues and know I feel confident that the air the I breath is clean.
MICHAEL M Dry mouth almost eliminated. Great product.
JOSEPH L No COTTON MOUTH NO HEAD ACHES very nice
RICHARD C very well made and works great never going back to the dry air breath. Japanese makes refine stuff.
DEREK M This purchase didnt work out so well. It makes your primary hose 4" too long and breathes slurpy wet the whole dive. Article in
dive mag rated it well and i had hoped it would cure my dry mouth brought on by Dramamine use.
RONALD F Probably the best piece of equipment I have purchased. No more dry mouth or headache, clearing and breathing during the dive is much easier, and there is no "dehydrated" feeling after a day of diving using this. I wouldn't dive without one now!
EMERICH H because i hate the feeling of having dry mouth. this helps a lot to prevent that "coton mouth"
MIKE C Got tired of sucking dry air and tasting some of the contaminated fills. The bio-filter works great and I definitely know when I forget to jtop off or refill the filter with water. When you make reprtitive dives over multiple days it makes a big difference on the dry lung discomfort.

Whats in the box:Bio-Filter Regulator Moisture System, 1 Wick, 2 Charcoal Filters SAFE... CLEAN .. Natural air from any scuba regulator. Apollo announces the new bio-filter for all scuba diving regulators. The Bio-Filter assures clean, moisturized air for comfortable and safe diving. Scuba divers everywhere can enjoy the benefits of this bio-filter by simply fitting it to any existing regulator. Many divers are not aware of the difference between compressed tank air and air they breathe on the surface. Compressed tank air is dry (0.1% humidity) and this can cause severe discomfort, dry throat, or 'cotton mouth.' More seriously, dry air dries lung tissue and increases the risk of decompression sickness. Other benefits include easier pressure equalization, reduced post-dive headaches, increased bottom time, and reduced general fatigue. For scuba diving, it is granted that the supply of ample air comes first, but no less crucial is the quality of air. Moisturized air is essential to pulmonary respiration and for comfortable, safer scuba diving. The Bio-Filter eliminates the problems associated with dry tank air by replacing 30-70% humidity back into the tank air the diver breathes. It also filters out trace particles of dust, rust, and odor. The Apollo Bio-Rilter is perfect for all scuba divers seeking clean, moisturized air - this includes the adventurous travel diver diving in locations where purity with air fills is questionable or the weekend diver who seeks comfort and additional safety.
