It is a tight fit, but still loose around the back of the neck, so water can get in.(If I flush out the water I get a nice sensation of warmth around my neck for a second). The length of the hood's neck may be the issue for me, as with a short neck even in a small size there's bound to be some excess material. having said that, this item functions well as an extra layer and comes off easily enough. It dries fast.
I like it and will use it again.
