Was surprise to breath without any effort. The regulator is well made and even without pressure adjustement, works well in strong current/deep water !!
Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I've used this reg several times this year and I love it. I do most of my diving in Wisconsin, it works great. I've never had a problem with freezing of free flow, which I've encountered on other regs. I hightly recommend it.
Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
This allowed my to fit an oceanic Atom transmitter as well as keep my guages as back-up.
Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I really like this Reg for the money. Very easy breathing for an unbalanced 2nd stage. My only complaint is that it is a little on the heavy side.

Bought this in the Mares package along with a Dragon AT BC.
Very pleased with everything, and all worked beautifully on my recent first outing with the gear.
Service was perfect. Delivery extremely fast.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
Mares makes some great dive equipment, and I’m exceptionally pleased with the total regulator. These regulators are extremely non-complicated and easy to repair. They follow in the footsteps of AMF Swimmaster’s MR12. The Abyss breaths like a dream in the shallows as well as at deeper than normal sport diving. Rem: Diaphragm first stages give little warning for last breath keep an eyeball on the pressure gauge.

I have only 20 dives on this reg in the last few weeks in Lake Michigan and Superior. This Mares impressed me enough to write and say it was well worth the cost.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I was impressed at how natural it was to breath with this reg - certainly a huge improvement on the Oceanic stuff the Dive school used.
I was surprised that it free-flows very easily. That's manageable, so the bottom line is I love my Mares reg!

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I use my regulator to dive in the warm water of the caribbean, and it feels like breathing on the surface (effortless, completely)...I dont regret for a moment making this choice, is THE REGULATOR!!!!!
Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I've had this reg for four years, now. It replaced
a nearly 20-year-old MR12III (on mine, the 2nd stage is almost identical to the MR12III; it was succeeded by the "turbine-face" 2nd stage; which was itself succeded by the current "spaghetti
collander" style 2nd stage). Aside from the issues I have with it, which in reality are minor at worst, I swear BY this regulator...not AT it!

This is by far the best regulator and second stage I have ever used! It almost breathes for me. I have never used a second stage that is so easy breathing. It looks great and has performed flawlessly so far.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
Great look, breathes easy...which is the most important feature.
Great regulator, well built and sturdy. I wanted something good for both warm and cold water and this seems to be it. Also very serviceable, easy to find service people for this piece of equipment. Have used in the Caribbean, Bahamas and also in Thailand.
Only downside is that it can get heavy, both carrying to the divesite and also during the dive.
Was assembled when delivered, wish it had included a low pressure hose.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
Got it as a gift four years ago, to replace a 20-year-old MR12III, which was an awesome reg. Despite the fact that it will give you a dry throat, and the exhaust tee compromises keeping bubbles from getting in your way (while you're stationary; no biggie when swimming)for aerodynamics, I love this unit. It's very, very easy-breathing, and overall, quite fun to use. I highly recommend it for sport/recreational diving. (I understand it's great for just about any diving application, but you be the judge!)

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
Well, this is the one for me! Excellent breathing (that's what it's for). Had no problems in colder water.
The only thing to remark is that it's a little heavy, so that's something to remember if you fly a lot. For me that has never been a problem and gives an overall sturdy and robust feeling to the reg.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
This is an excellent regulator, i have done more than 1200 dives with it and i only had it serviced by professionals 2 times. But the breathing at depth gets harder you feel sometimes like you are sucking the air. And it's not because it's used and abused, was always like that. I got used to it but i cannot say that it's the most comfortable breathing, specially after trying the scubapro s600/mk25 what difference! I won't say that my abyss is a bad regulator it has been my buddy for a lot of dives and never failed on me, but the air flow is not the best. I specially don't recommend it for extreme depths.

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
Hi! Hope this review helps! I have had this reg for about 9 months and dove at least 60 dives with it. It is well built and easy to use. It breathes absolutely perfectly, and despite some comments I saw, the exhaust manifold hasn't bubbled up any of my picture taking moments. It doesnt have any adjustment switches and doesn't need them; and in turn you don't pay hundreds more for any gimmicks. I found the factory bite block was a little small so I got a moldable one and switched them out. Besides that there are no complaints. As I said, it breathes great. Also, it doesn't have the free flow problems I see with other types of regs..less air wasted is good :) I would definitely recommend this reg to friends and one friend did buy the same one and has also enjoyed it. I would buy it again!

Comments about Mares Mares MR22 Abyss Regulator (old style):
I recently purchased the Abyss and dove with my son during his open water certification. This reg is awesome. Breathes well at all depths and with no jaw fatigue (although a little heavier than composite regs). I highly recommend this one
