Brand: Aqualung
Located in: Essential Equipment, Regulators
When you dive, you head to depths to view sea life, the environment, and wrecks, right? How often have you seen more bubbles than fish while underwater? The Kronos regulator offers a brilliant Side-X (patent pending) exhaust system that moves the bubbles to the side of your field of vision instead of in front of your face, allowing you to actually see the sea, lake, or river's offerings. Another "why didn't they think of that before" feature of the Kronos is the exhaust design; A Heat Exchanger to reduce temperature drop in the breathing airand as you exhale, your warm breath flows over the second stage's valve, which warms the valve and allows it to resist freezing.

The first stage has an auto-balanced diaphragm and features the Auto-Closure Device (ACD), which keeps water out of the first stage and protects it from corrosion. The first stage is constructed from Marine Grade Chromed Brass. The venturi control system and integrated Dual Cam controller give you complete control over air flow and sensitivity. Regulator is equipped with Aqua Lungs Comfo-Bite Mouthpiece the most comfortable mouthpiece available for diving. Kronos is EAN 40 out of the box.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme Regulator:

I'm a recreational diver with less than 20 dives under my belt but I know what I like...and I love this rig. The mouthpiece actually keeps your lips noticeably warm and bubbles out of your face as claimed. There are plenty of HP and LP ports on the first stage and the build quality is top notch. I like how this reg has a feature to keep moisture from entering the first stage so I don't have to stress over it. I use this with my XS 100cf high-pressure(3442psi) steel tanks and XS DIN/Yoke Valve pro(3442). I caught this regulator on sale for $270-ish here on LP and could not be happier with the product and with LeisurePro. If I had to come up with a complaint I could say that I would prefer the primary hose to be about 1 inch longer. Otherwise, awesome.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme Regulator:

I work in the dive industry. I bought the product one year ago and have since done over 600 dives with it. The Regs' air delivery is on par with the premium products available. It breaths smooth with very little resistance even at depths of 80m to which I have tested it. It is light, and very comfortable in your mouth. Also you don't get the dry mouth that you sometimes get with other second stages. The review about the awkwardness of the HP port orientation on the first stage is a fair one. All the hoses end up being at 90 degree angles to one another and this is frustrating at times I admit. I don't understand why they did this. The side port exhaust for bubbles is brilliant. I have one colleague who complains that it directs bubbles directly into his right ear and that it bothers him however if you use this reg for 50 dives and then switch back to a regular dual exhaust second stage you will immediately realize how much you prefer the one sided bubble exhaust configuration. It just takes a little getting used to at first but I assure you that you will prefer it if you give it a chance. I've also had several of my colleagues who use MK25/S600 ScubarPro premium regs (which are much more expensive) admit to me that they actually feel that the air delivery from the Kronos is better. I'm not sure if I necessarily agree that it is better but it is certainly on par. I own a MK25/S600 as well and I still prefer it to the Kronos but it is much more expensive, and overkill for anyone who does not intend on doing what's commonly referred to as 'sport diving' deep diving or technical diving. There is no decrease in performance at depth or on a very empty tank. Perhaps a computer can measure the difference but you certainly will not be able to. Also the ACD feature on the first stage is a brilliant thing to have. No matter how careful one is, over the course of hundreds of dives you will get water in your first stage, the ACD assures you that this will not compromise your equipment. I use a Yoke configuration and I still dry my dust cap every time but it's nice to know you have the ACD feature just in case. If you buy the product, I recommend you opt for the 'comfort' mouth piece because believe me it makes a difference. I have it on my reg' but not on my octo and you can notice the difference in feel between the two. Also important is that you get an all aqualung configuration for your reg. If you use for example a FROG Pressure gauge (like I do) it voids your warranty; something that was just recently brought to my attention. Fortunately for me this product is extremely reliable and sturdy. I use it every day, I've dropped it 3-4times already and one time from a height of almost 2 meters onto concrete and nothing is broken, everything is still working flawlessly. Sure the plastic housing is susceptible to scratches yes, but that is precisely where you are saving money, not on the performance. Also, although I have no personal experience with this, I've been told that the second stage is complicated to service and you will therefore likely have to send it to an Aqualung service center when something breaks. This is not the case with my Scuba Pro or my Mares' regulators which I service myself as they are fairly simple. Unless you are planning on diving in cold water (below 10 degrees Celsius) it is not necessary to get the Kronos Supreme, but rather the regular Kronos (it's what I use). Finally I would like to add one final comment. The regulator seems to be performing better with increased use. When it was brand new I was alarmed that when I swam upside down it seemed to sputter, the same also happens when you stare directly up at the surface. A phenomenon that I'm sure anyone who has used shop rental equipment is familiar with. Strangely this ceased to occur after about 100 dives (arbitrary number) All I'm saying is that it seems to need some "working in" All in all an excellent value. I'm not the biggest fan of Aqua Lung to begin with, I bought the product as an excellent value and because I was curious about the side port exhaust. If you are looking to spend a lot of money on a premium regulator I recommend Apex and Scubapro over Aqualung any day of the week. However if you are looking for something that can be bashed around day in day out, dive after dive after dive. This is a light, sturdy, high performance product for an excellent price, you can't go wrong.

I bought this unit when I got certified. In three years it has never let me down. Bubbles stay out of your face and ears. Even on drift dive the bubbles are carried away to give you a clear field of view.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme Regulator:

I just received my regulator and have not yet put it into use. However, initial impressions of the purchase were less than stellar. The plastic on the first stage had chunks missing out of it and the metal was scratched in places. The entire regulator was very dusty; as if it had been sitting on a shelf for a year (or more).

I am truly hoping that my first time out (in about two weeks time) with the regulator will clear a lot of these negative initial impressions -- which I readily admit are cosmetic. I will update my comments once I have a chance to try out the regulator.

One last thing, the "Features" section says "spare mouthpiece" is included, but none came with the regulator. Not a major disappointment, but just some more bad mojo.

Before to buy my first regulator I used several in order to find the best one and of course I search a lot of information on internet. There are a lot of great regulators but I just love this one. You can breathe easily, fits perfect in your mouth, awesome 100% visibility. I highly recommend this product. Try to use scuba equipment before buying. Aqualung offers technical support around the world.

Sent it back

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme Regulator:

Seemed like a good reg but as soon as I connected the octo, gauges and LP hose for BCD I realized I had to send it back. The layout of the LP and HP ports on the 1st stage make it nearly impossible to have any kind of "hose management". In best of configurations you still have 4 hoses each at 90deg from each other. If this is not an issue for you, disregard this review... this was my only issue and I never even got the reg wet. I live in Chicago, so I go to the Caribbean to dive, so "packability" is critical for me. I am plan to trade it in for a Legend LX.

Comments about Aqualung Aqua Lung Kronos Supreme Regulator:

Very easy to breath with. Weird at the begining(you miss the bubbles = better visibility). I'm on the path to tech diver and i bought this one for comfort while i'm training; I stay more focused underwater, relaxing when solving problems underwater since there are no bubbles on your face. Good for underwater Photo/video. Warmest dive=90 degrees; Coldest dive=55 degrees in caverns. It's a great reg.
