In an emergency, experts advise offering an out of air buddy your primary second stage and using your octopus regulator yourself. When was the last time you practiced that? Next time you do, evaluate how it easy it was. If you had any problems, consider buying Oceanic's Swivel 180 Degree Octopus-it's super simple to use.

As its name implies, the Swivel 180 Degree Octopus has a swivel where the low pressure hose attaches to the second stage. But that's not its only unique feature. Unlike most second stages, the 180 Octo has no up or down and exhausts exhaled bubbles at the side. This means the hose for this breathing machine can come over or under either your left or right shoulder and you'll still be able to pick up the octopus, put it in your mouth, purge and breathe without stopping to check its orientation.
To make it easy to find, the Swivel 180 Degree Octo and its hose are high visibility yellow. To avoid jaw fatigue, the second stage weighs only 5.8 ounces and features an anatomically designed mouthpiece. The cover, which has an integrated purge valve, measures only three inches across, so this second stage is compact and low profile.

The Swivel 180 Degree Octo comes ready to use with air or nitrox mixtures up to 40 percent.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Swivel 180 Degree" Octopus, Yellow:

I've had this Octo for 3+ years. After de-tuning it, it has been a reliable back-up. It does breath wet and takes some effort, but again, it is not meant to be a primary reg. Price was right and the swivel makes handing off nice and easy.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Swivel 180 Degree" Octopus, Yellow:

I have had this octo for about a year, but I plan on replacing it with something nicer. From the get go, this octo has leaked or free flowed with regularity. I got my DSO to take a look at it, and we ended up having to restrict the air flow enough to make breathing difficult. A friend of mine also has this octo, and his has since cracked, rendering it useless.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Swivel 180 Degree" Octopus, Yellow:

The swivel makes buddy breathing the best thing since sliced bread.

I've had two units for about two years and on the first dives I had free flow problems. I sent the units back to LeisurtePro and they replaced seals, which cured the problem, once and for all. Apparently some units had bad seals.

I switched from an Alpha 4 to this swivel Octo. It is much more streamlined. When I've shared air, my buddy says it breaths easy and is comfortable.

I have had this for almost a year and went into a pool with it and it had a free flow problem. The local dive shop tried unsuccessfully to repair it but had to send it back to Oceanic for repair or replacement.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Swivel 180 Degree" Octopus, Yellow:

I went on a high altitude cold/fresh water dive at Flaming Gorge, UT. I was testing a new second stage regulator and my new Oceanic Swivel 180 degree octopus. The second stage needed a bit of adjustment, but the Swivel worked great.
