Don't hesitate to buy this product if you are wavering. Easy breather and as advertised is able to function either way up or down. Easier breather than my Sherwood Blizzard and had no issues distinguishing it as an alternate given its color.Nice and slim design is also an asset.
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I purchased this one because of the good reviews. I'm really happy with it as well because it's slim and easy to tuck away.
My three favorite things about this octo are:
1) There is no "this way up". The reg will breath in regardless of being up or down.
2) Breaths real easy in comparison to others that are like breathing through a straw!
3) It's DRY! Unlike one of the puck style ones I tried this one doesn't get any water built up in it after so many breaths.
Finally, I would have no problem enjoying a dive with this unit.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Visually I'd have preferred it to have had more florescent detailing, as it does tend to blend into your kit slightly if conditions are murky.
This octo is rock solid, no free flow what so ever, down side is it takes a little effort to draw breath. Breaths are a little moist as you'd expect with this style octo but still very acceptable.
Would have gotten a 4/5 if it was more florescent.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I decided to get this octo after having to use it from my instructor during ascent from a deep wreck(Spiegel Grove). My old Mares back-up had a very bad free flow problem and on that particular dive it left me low on air. Our safety stop had our group hanging of the line in about a 7-9 knot current. I used this octo while watching other divers also having free flow problems in the stiff current. After switching back to my primary for the last little bit to the boat, I told myself that I was going home and ordering this octo. No problems since, this is a great back-up octo. It is a steal at this price.
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
really great octo, best is it DOES NOT LEAK,a little restrictive to breath with, but it is an octo!!!!

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
This design has no "up or down", and that makes it easy to hand off to a diver in need. Does not free flow and breathes easy.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Does what it is suposed to. Nice design and Steamedlined.
I usually change my second stage for my octopus when I am on my safety stop just to see how they work and to keep them in good shape, this one performs ok, I only expect it to be an octopus and a last resort for an emergency, and for that it does what it is supposed to.
Good product for open water and recreational dives

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Divers, be aware that this is not your primary second stage! Air flow will feel a little "restrictive", but the Mares MV Octopus fills the bill as a reliable secondary air source. The best part is that there is no need to switch it right side up when offering air to your buddy - it's breathable and functional, both ways! The Mares MV Octo is compact and lightweight; perfect for dive travel. The lightweight design may, in fact, feel different; not as comfortable (as I'm used to anyway), though not uncomfortable either. Just seems a little "stiff". I think it just takes a little getting used to, and in time, I'll love it. My husband has the exact same thing, and he cannot be happier. In general, this is an innovative design and a good buy for the buck.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Excellent option for an octo, it is very low profile for streamlining and light/compact for storage/travel. For a test, I breathed off of it in shallow water for awhile and it works well. A bonus is that it works either way it is flipped.
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
streamlined design, easy to use, well marked out
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Light weight and very affordable 4 the money!

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Mares took over the Dacor line and continue to make this Viper design type octopus. Functional for a great price. It is not a primary regulator, but a good low profile octopus that is low weight which is important with all the weight restrictions in travel now.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
i took this octo out for it's maiden voyage the other day in chilly lake champlain (38 degrees) and the octo still breathes well. the octo holder that comes with it needs some thought on how to attach to your bc but once i got it on it was great. I tried taking a few breaths on it at depth and i think if anyone ever needed it in an emergency they would love seeing this octo on you.

No free flow problems while diving in shallow water in Hawaii. Streamlined octopus helps minimize profile

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
So if Tom Petty wrote a song about this it'd be called Free Flowin.
My wife has the rebel as a primary and it has random free flow issues also.
The only real benefit to this is low profile.
I'd only use this if there was no other regulator available - even to rent.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
This a an octo folks, not a 2nd stage primary reg. The guy from Texas stated gets labourous at 45 ft that he is spoiled and use to the 500 dollar regs. I hope your not using this as a primary 2nd stage. As a backup you can't beat the design. Cheers BA

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I have read reviews saying this octopus is hard breathing at deeper depths. I have only tried it as deep as 45Ft so far and it was just fine. It's compact and fits well when tethered to my BCD.
These guys ship so fast! I use them for all my scuba needs.
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I used it in warm water(Tanzania) and I was pleased with the air flow. The materials look durable and long life.

Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I use it as an octopus and its a nice small design that keeps me streamlined and looks good.
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
I'm used to a really greate Mares regulator that is smooth all the way to 90/100 feet. Perhaps I am spoiled, but this little guy becomes laborous at about 35 feet. It works great as a back up, but for the money it's a great little life saver. Practice with it and you'll know what to expect. Don't expect it to draw a breath like the $500 regulators! Let's hope nobody needs to ever use it!
Comments about Mares Mares MV Octopus:
Serves as a great back up. never had to use it myself or allow a dive buddy to use and hope I never have to. do test it each time after hooking up to my tank. seems to work great. Breathes easy.
