The Rebel Octopus second stage Vortex Assist Design (V.A.D.) system: all Mares second stages offer the unique patented VAD system. The air bypass tube conveys air to the mouthpiece creating a swirling vortex with a low pressure area in the center this keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation, giving very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths. The second stage cover features the new "mesh-grid" system for water inflow and outflow, which provides a further performance improvement. Furthermore, the compact and ergonomic exhaust tee ensures superior hydrodynamic performance and reduced exhalation resistance.

Good octo for the post part. Did have some free flow issues initially but when I got it hanging the right way on my bc it was fine. Came with an incredibly long hose which did not make me streamlined at all. With a shorter hose it would be fine.

Easy to breath in, feels safe, don't freeflow at all. Only have 10 dives before I bye this. Have 16 dives with this, and feel good with the fact that it was just there in case of needed it :-)

I am a PADI Instructor and I have bought this Mares Rebel Octopus as part of Leisurepro discounted package. I have ordered 7 of these Octopuses so far this season for my students and still working so well. Even though lot of my students miss treats these octopuses; but they proved themselves in swimming pool as well as in open sea training.

Works and breathes easily. I found that when I first get into the water it will let out a very, very small steam of bubbles no matter what I do. As I descend the bubbling stops and when I have reached the surface no bubbles. The small stream of bubbles did not seem to affect air consumption at all. When I used the plug that came with the octo to secure it, the octo free flowed and was a pain to keep from free flowing, when used with split ring octo holder it worked much better, just the small steam of bubbles as mentioned before, but never free flowed. Might be better with a little more trial and error to see wht I likes best. Only have 8 dives o it so far.
