Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
Ive done about 300 dives with this dive computer as a divemaster... Its very robust, reliable and easy to read... although using the menus is a bit of a pain in theass (just one button)... The main problem I had with it started when I noticed the diference between my VEO180 and the other divers computer's NO DECO time limit (mainly suunto and uwatec)... this computer is way too liberal (as are all oceanic dive computers)! it's Algorithm is based on PADI tables! the most backwards and outdated tables in the market too! First time I noticed this, I was leading a dive... Just me and another diver (with an UWATEC computer)... we decided to do a nice & long dive starting at 25ish meters and work our way up the reef, always staying 3-5 min away from deco. this was the diver's 1st dive of his dive trip and I had been diving everyday for 2 weeks (3-4 times a day - my comp should have been much more conservative than his). the diver was next to me all the time (did nothing strange). at around 9 meters, the diver tapped my shoulder and showed me his dive computer... 11 min into deco!! while my VEO180 was saying all was fine... that I could stay down there at around 9 meters more than an hour!!! of course... the diver should've let me know he was about to go into deco... not 11 min INTO DECO! after that, I started cross-checking my VEO180 with every other dive comp that I got a chance (even some test dives with my fellow divemasters using SUUNTO). the big differences where always there. that got me thinking of the many times I had done long (not necessarily deep) dives keeping close to deco... acording to most dive computers on the market, I would have had to do DECO STOPS on all of them! As soon as I was able to, I bought myself a SUUNTO (It was either that or an UWATEC).....
Ive heard people complain about some computers being too conservative... but, with decompresion theory a big mistery... all based on empirical evidence... No one knows how all that disolved gas in your body REALLY behaves.. ITS BETTER TO GO FOR TOO CONSEVATIVE, RATHER THAN TOO LIBERAL!! although I (and many more divers allover the world) have done quite a few dives with the VEO180 and nothing has happened to me, it is still too much of a gamble for my taste...
If you are going to use this computer...
I recomend you dive it much more conservative than it tells you...
Stay away from deep dives... but if you go deep, then add deep stops and extra mins to your safety (deco) stop...
Regardless of the dive computer (with this one even more), watch you accent rate... go up as slow as posible, take you time, specially in shallow water.
I dont recomend this dive computer to anyone... much less a beginner. spend a few extra bucks on a SUUNTO... the GEKKO is an excellent entry level dive computer.
This was not an isolated case... It was not just my VEO180 that had a problem... All OCEANIC dive computers are like that. I have met several people over the years with OCEANIC comps... all of them way too liberal (in my opinion).
Think about it before you buy...
Try one first... next to another dive computer of a different brand if posible, so you can see the difference.
Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
Great No Frills Computer. Shows what you need to know. Warning Beep is hard to notice. I removed it from Band and popped it into my console (replacing depth gauge puck). Overall excellent value!
Leisure Pro is the Best! When I buy something, I usually want it now! But, its worth the wait when buying from Leisure Pro. Bought on Friday and had it before my next weekend dive!

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
This is the easiest computers to read. Big numbers and nitrogen bar graph. I've learned from many computers what looks good on the surface or in a magazine , might not work underwater. Most computers I have to hold up to my face to see the nitrogen bar graph. This one is big and easy, what a deal
Delivery was great , arrived just fine, good company

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
I really liked to computer for the first two dives but when I replaced the battery the o'ring got crimped and leaked (screwed) even after I was watching very closey to the cover it crimped almost very time I tried to replace the cover. Try a different computer. Oceanic did not even answer my e-mail, I would have paid to have it looked at.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
The manual that came with the computer was only in Spanish. That could be a problem (perhaps even from a liability standpoint) for purchasers who are not functional in Spanish.
Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
I don't like the "no fly" feature that cannot be turned off. Seems like a lot of battery use when making local dives.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
Works great for most needs. Color graphs on bezel are hard to see due to rubber wrist boot. Time to fly after diving is the same for any and all dives as indicated (not much use). Audible alarm is not loud enough. The Ocean Log software sold separately was buggy and required customer service. Good computer for the basics, but would check out the newer ones.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
We have a wrist and a console version. Use them for air and nitrox dives. The warning sound can barely be heard and can easily be missed if there are other divers or noises around. The warning light works, if you happen to be looking at the time. A little hard to read tissue loading graph. I like the PC download. Economical.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
The computer was easy to use and worked well for us. We do not yet use nitrox and dive 2-3 times a year. The instruction booklet was okay. It took us a while to realize that there is no way to turn off the computer. It just has to shut itself off. The graphs and numbers are easy to read. We cannot speak to the reliability as we have only used it once; however, the construction seem durable.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
This is a reliable basic computer that gets the job done but don't expect too much more. You can not set the alarms and they only sound when you go into DECO or if you're going up too fast. I know you should always be aware of your depth but it would be nice if at least it would let you know you were at 20 - 15 ft. to make a Safety Stop. With one button be prepared to scroll!! if you go past some information you're looking for, just hope you only have a few dives saved otherwise you'll be scrolling though all of those too. The same applies if you make a mistake during the set up mode which is really easy to get into..sometime even when you don't want to. On the plus side you can set it up to come on as soon as it gets wet which is nice. The price is right and it does give you all the basic information you'll need but it stops at that. This also does not have RGBM capability. I bought one for myself and my wife and they both had Spanish only manuals. Not a big deal since my wife is from Peru and the English version is on the Oceanic web site. This is not a recommended computer for diving at Bikini so now if I'm going to do that I need to buy another computer.

Comments about Oceanic Oceanic "Veo 180" Air/Nitrox Dive Computer SWIV Triple Navcon Console:
Very easy to use. This wrist computer has everything you need for air and enriched air diving. The audible alarms either don't work or aren't loud enough, but, the red warning light functions properly and is easy to see. The color reference for tissue loading bars is difficult to see because of the rubber wrist boot that holds the computer module. Overall a good computer. Get the cable for downloading the data for Ocean Log.
