Many divers take compasses for granted, considering them just an accessory to an overall dive gauge console system. Trying to navigate with a poorly designed or improperly functioning compass can be one of diving's more frustrating events. The design team at Oceanic may have designed the best compass available today with a list of features as functional and convenient as every instrument that bears the Oceanic name.

The SideScan is actually a dual purpose compass. The convenient sidescan window allows quick reference of large, easy to read bearing indicators on a luminescent display. Or, for divers who prefer relative navigation, the ratchet bezel can be rotated easily even with thick neoprene gloves. The bezel numbers on top of the SideScan Compass are actually molded completely through the bezel ring and literally cannot be rubbed off unlike silk screened graphics.

The luminous dial of the Sidescan is designed with a half black / half luminous graphic to make quick work of compass direction, especially in dim light. The dial rests on a precision jeweled bearing and incorporates extremely strong magnets for super quick response and accuracy. While the SideScan module itself is very compact, the housing has a large vertical interior allowing viewing angles that would stop other compasses in their tracks.

Except for the strap being way too long this compass works very well. Wide range of pivot motion gives an accurate reading with out the need to hold perfectly level unlike many others.

I purchased this model compass because I can mount it on the SWIV console when I want to dive with my analog guages or I can put it back in the wrist mount when diving with a fully air integrated computer. This is a good, basic compass, and excellent for new students to use.

We wanted a cheap compass and this one is it. It does everything a compass should without any added bells or whistles. I noticed that it even glows in the dark at night (although not good enough to see clearly on a night dive after about 20 minutes of being in the dark water). For the money, this is a great compass. My only complaint is that it is bulky on your arm. But, I guess it can't be helped.

This compass is great. I was able to complete a 300yd nav in slight current with about 50' vis and hit the mooring line dead on (when we arrived back at our starting point). I am an okay navigator, but with this compass, I was able to do much better than with the other compasses I own. I think this is just as good as the SK7 (which I have on my console)!

Good wrist compass. Purchased for the U/W nav portion of the PADI Adv. Open Water and have used on every dive since - even in great vis in the Bahamas to make sure I could find my way back to the boat.

The items levels it self quickly, but you also have to make an effort to turn your wrist/arm so that your level.

It's not as easy to read as a guage mounted compass, BUT your not having to search for the compass/gauges. It's always attached to YOU.
