The MaxDepth has two needles; the one tipped in fluorescent pink marks the depth, the second, resettable needle records the maximum depth reached on each dive down to 200 feet. Depths from 10 to 40 have numbers for 10 foot increments and hash marks for 5 foot increments; those from 40 to 120 have numbers for 20 foot increments and hash marks for 10.
Since the shallow depths - 10 to 30 feet - are where critical safety/decompression stops take place, the scale for those depths has been expanded to make it easier to read. The depths beyond those considered safe for sport divers - 130 to 200 feet - are fluorescent pink,noting caution.
The MaxDepth has a luminescent face, making it easy to read in low light conditions.
The MaxDepth is an excellent instrument for novice divers. It can be popped out of a console easily and replaced with anOceanic dive computer whenever its owner is ready for the upgrade.

Being a Brit living in Australia, I was very pleased to be able to purchase a metric gauge on a US site. I dive on computer, so only really needed this as a back up and for the compass. I was a little worried about the potential problems of using a northern hemisphere compass down under, but this one seems to work fine. I use an elasticated lanyard to keep the gauge close into my BCD and so the swivel function works well at ensuring its still easy to view.

Nearly impossible to remove the depth gauge to replace with a computer. I purchased it to put a computer I already owned in, but I have yet to get the depth gauge out, even following the somewhat vague instructions.

I ordered the "old style" max depth guage and was sent this one instead. Naturally I am more than happy with the upgrade, thanks LP. Bought this b/c I trained with these and they are by far the most easy and intuitive to read at depth IMO. Have not used this unit but have done dives with this guage before and it's great. If you're looking for a basic guage setup without spending hundreds on a computer, or are looking to backup your computer with an analog setup, this is perfect. Can be fitted with a compass if desired. Great buy.

Nice gauge setup. Dials are well layed out. Depth gauge is calibrated for accurate reading a shallow depth, making it easy to nail the 15' safety stop depth. Compass is positioned at a good angle for easy reading.

Had another more expensive console and returned it. This unit is easy to read and accurate with our computers for depth. Don't like computers or compasses on my console as it is more convienient to have them seperate when needed. We dive nearly every weekend with this console.

It is just what any diver could need for the price. If you cant afford a computer yet this will do just fine till then. Pluss it is small enough to not get in the way and big enough to read. I highly recomend this product untill you can get a computer. I used this for three years and never failed me once.

easy to read underwater.
the maximum depth needle is not easy to reset to zero, but again this is better like that in order to serve it purpose. Its not the cheapest but its worth it IMO
