Brand: Cressi
Located in: Essential Equipment, Gauges
Innovative and user-friendly, the Archimedes utilizes Cressi's User Friendly Display System (UFDS). Its breakthrough design features extra large, easy to read characters, convenient diver changeable three volt CR2032 battery with an approximate battery life of two years at 50 dives per year, large mode buttons and diver programmable functions. The pressure gauge is a high quality instrument with a chrome plated brass case. The computer, compass and gauge have a large circular easy to read display.

The Archimedes 2 Computer is a multi-functional computer that can be used for air or nitrox diving. It uses the Buhlmann ZH-LB algorithm, redesigned by Randy Bohrer. It uses a 12 tissue model with tissue half-times from 5 to 640 minutes. The Archimedes is calibrated for salt water, has a measuring range of 0' to 328'(0 to 99.9 meters) in computer mode and 0' to 656' (0 to 199.9 meters) in gauge mode, and has a maximum surface time calculation of 48 hours. If altitude divingis a concern, the computer will properly adjust from 0' to 19,685'(0 to 6,000 meters). The computer can also be used in either imperial units (feet) or metricunits (meters).

Computer allows for air or nitrox programming with choices of two different mixtures during the same dive with oxygen fractions from 21% to 50% with increments of 1% for the first mix and 21% to 99% for the second mix. You can make partial oxygen pressure adjustment from 14.5 psi to 23 psi (1.0 to 1.6 bar), with increments of 1.5 psi (0.1 bar) for each of the mixes. Depending on yourdiving skill level, physical health and age, you can program in a safety factor for either aggressive or conservative dives profiles. Designed with safety in mind, the Archimedes 2 tracks and displays both N2 and 02 levels, bar graphs aredisplayed on the left and right of screen displaying tissue level status. Additionally, audible and visual alarms are featured for critical dive situations.

Your current decompression status while diving with either nitrox or air is displayed during your dive with decompression stops starting at depths as deep as 99' (30 meters) with safety stops for dives that exceed a depth of 33' (10 meters) at 10' (3 meters) , and both depths, times and date are displayed. The computer also has a variable ascent rate with four different rate levels. A programmable dive simulation can be reviewed while on the surface for safe, repetitive dive planning. Before starting your day of diving and between dives, the computer will scroll No Decompression Limits (NDL) and/or ANDL to depths down to 160' (48 meters).

The Archimedes will store up to 30 hours and 60 dives into its memory. This logbook function has three data displays for each dive, has a memory of total number of dives, hours spent underwater and maximum depth reached. With the Archimedes PC downloadable interface, your dive profiles can easily be uploaded to a PC. The computers large characters are easy to read in low light conditionswith a high intensity back light that can be activated by a push of a button andstays on for five seconds. The Archimedes is the perfect multi-functional dive computer for the recreational as well as the professional diver.

With all these features for safe diving you can also use the computer in a gaugeonly mode. This and the general rest function are great features for the dive center when computer is used for dive training, in confined water sessions or for multiple diver use in one day for open water sessions. The gauge function gives current depth, maximum depth, dive time, ascent rate and time of day. The gauge function can be used to depths from 0' to 656' (0 to 199.9 meters). ). Foradded protection the computer comes with a replaceable protective screen guard for the computer display.

The Mini-Manometer pressure gauge luminescent dial reads from 0-to 5000 psi. Theinstruments face is divided into three different colored zones: the area from 600 psi and below is highlighted in red with a solid bar and red stripes. If gauge is used on deeper dives, the red scale extends and fades to 1,300 psi. This provides for added reserve air indication required at greater depths. From 600 to approximately 3,000 psi is green and from 3,000 to end of scale is blue.

The front glass lens is made to act as a pressure relief valve. In the event of a sudden increase in pressure inside the instrument, the glass rises slightly, allowing the excess pressure to escape. The instruments are housed in a small, modern shaped console boot, made from polycarbonate and desmopan, (a thermoplastic polyurethane) two materials that guarantee protection from shocks, scratches and which, at the same time, is very lightweight.

The compass also has a luminous dial for easy reading in low light conditions. The compass face is divided into 10 degree sections, has a side scan window for gun sight accuracy, lubber line, rotating bezel with double references and compass rose.

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

Product is very intuitive. I read the manual and was a little confused until I actually got in the water. I was a little confused by the nitrox settings until I did the nitrox certification in this last trip... to be expected. I bought one for me and one for my girl and we both liked it.

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

I purchased the Archimedes II as my first dive computer and I couldn't be happier. I have used the computer on eight dives now and have not experienced any problems. After comparing depths, water temperature, and dives times with other divers using computers, this dive computer was right on and presented accurate information. This dive computer is easy to use and very reasonably priced. The display is easy to read underwater and the built in alarms assist divers in completing recommended safety stops and proper ascent rates. The Archimedes II also alerts the diver of proper desaturation times in between dives and keeps track of the diver's nitrogen exposure. It also has a built in function which alerts the diver when it is safe to fly and has a built in dive log feature. Overall, I would definitely recommend this computer to other divers looking to purchase a dive computer.

Service & Delivery comments:

Customer service representative was extremely helpful and personable. Delivery was prompt. Initially when the product arrived it would not turn on due to a dead battery. Contacted Leisure Pro and they immediately shipped out a brand new battery.

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

I was completely amazed at how easy this computer was to use. I sat down with the manual and the computer and was preparing to educate myself and I found that it was just as easy to click through it and just set it as I wanted rather than reading the manual. I had mine done faster than my husband who sat and read the whole manual. How ever the manual will teach you about all of the many features that this computer offers even though you may never use them. I am glad to know that my computer can do anything that I may need it to! This computer IS also PC compatible if you purchase the software. And the battery is super simple to replace.

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

This computer has its advantages: it's easy to use and switches from air to nitrox smoothly. But these attributes are cancelled by the computer's shortcomings:
- Uses a lot of battery power relative to other computers, since it doesn't actually "switch off".
- Extremely conservative unit. I am a careful diver, but this computer had me in Deco in situations that my buddies computers allowed. I have been forced to make prolonged safety stops to get out of deco mode, understandably resulting in peeved buddies.
- After a year of use, one of the sensors corroded (despite careful rinsing and drying on my part), which led to erroneous depth readings. My lasdt dive with this computer, I was recorded at 92 feet when (according to my buddy's computer and a hired wrist-mounted computer I was wearing) we were actually at 24 feet. This might have also led to the computer giving me false ascent readings: when I pulled my gauge closer to eye-level (it is attached to my BC with a retractor), the depth went from 92 to 64 feet, and started flashing "SLOW" when I hadn't even ascended more than an inch.

Bottom line: buy another computer.

I upgraded from an air only computer. Was certified for Nitrox. The computer works really well, you just need to reset it each time when diving with Nitrox on consecutive dives, otherwise it will kick you over to AIRDIVE.

Easy to use, intuitive which is good, because the instruction manual isnt the best. Its my first computer and now I feel I cant dive without it. My only complaint is that it doesnt come with a PC interface download. Maybe thats why its priced so low.

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

Nice computer, with good beginner functionality. Has some advanced capabilities as well. Easy to use. My only issue is that the GREEN-RED bars for no-decomp are hard to see in low vis situations, and the same for seeing the ascent speed bars -- hard to see. I also cannot hear the alarm...but I admit to having a hard time hearing stuff when I dive -- I'm to busy concentrating on seeing stuff!

Comments about Cressi Cressi Archimede II 3 Gauge Computer Console:

This Cressi is easy to read under water, which is a nice feature for those with less than perfect vision.
I recommend removing the battery when going for long periods of time between dives. - It tends to run down more quickly than other computers.

This was my first dive computer that I owned. I work at a dive shop where I demo many computers and this by far takes the cake. I have taken it 200ft deep, and it led me very safely to the deco stops and to the surface. I feel very safe with this computer. I will never need another computer.
