I narrowed my search down to the Mares Nemo Wide and the Gekko. I think that I made the right decision. This computer is less expensive and has all the functions of the Nemo Wide that your typical diver would require. I think that I saw a Nemo Wide on a diver last week in the D.R. and it looked huge on her wrist!
I just wish that this had a compass built in.

After one year of recreational diving this computer has been verry impressive. I made 78 dives on it in 2009 and the battery is still reading 4 bars (I carry a replacement battey).

Other computers give you more bottom time but I do not mind the safety margin built in to this computer.

Learn how to use it before you get it wet and it will impress you as well.

Just completed a two week/three dives a day trip and this computer worked great. Large display was easy to read underwater. I used it with nitrox. I did not use the logbook function which would require carrying the entire regulator to my room to log my dives each evening. Otherwise, great little computer and easy to use.

This computer is used on all dives as a back up to my cobra. I like Suunto products as they are very dependable and easy to use. These computers are conservative but this is a plus for me as I am over 65 years old. Most of my dives are drift dives from 60 to 95 feet so I need a dependable computer for half saftey stops as well as normal saftey stops. The ascent graph is easy to read and works well.

I was hesitant to use this computer on recent dives in Key West and Grand Cayman having NEVER used it, or ANY computer before. Super easy and user friendly. Slight learning curve but very easy and feature filled. I downloaded the pdf users manual off of Suunto's site and had NO PROBLEMS. I suggest you read the manual beforehand. (Our dive leader in KW had a Gekko also and loved hers, too!) What a great price for a Suunto with AUDIBLE ALARMS ( a MUST, in my opinion!!) Just BUY IT!!!

Its a great dive computer. Its very easy to read and the menus are laid out for simple operation. It can be connected to your Mac despite what the description says. All you need is a SmartInterface cable and MacDive. I have have all my dives downloaded.

Great product at a great price! PC interface can be enabled with free software patch, equals dive computers costing $200-$300 more. Like all computers, it takes a bit of study to utilize fully, but it does everything a recreational diver might want.

I bought this to do my deep dive certification - but I didn't realise that was going to be at the 40 fathom groto in FL which is pitch black at 10 foot down - so as I am trying to go up and down with a flashlight, it was a real pain to try and monitor my computer as well! having said all that , it seems to work just fine and I am looking forward to diving in visible conditions with it soon!

This computer is perfect for my 1 or 2 dive trips a year. Beeps to alert you if you need to attend to something. It requests that you make a 3 minute safety stop and counts it down for you.

The only negative is that the "glowing" face barely glows at all.

The Gecko worked great. My only issue is that it the menu structure for scrolling through the logged dives is a little counter-intuitive but not too hard to figure out after a while.

Trying to use the buttons without a pen or pencil to push on them with is a pain. The protective cover is in the way and you can only get the edge of a finger on the button which means you have to press very hard. They should move the buttons to the side. I have used it for 12 dives now and am not happy with it at all. I will be trading it in for a different computer the next time I go to my dive shop. I am 5' 6" tall and have small hands and it is just a bad design.

its a good computer that does its job...... they say that it doesnt have a PC interface but that is wrong....... i got a cord from a viper and plugged it strait in the back(it has a plug in spot)

awesome computer very easy to use. really like the ascent rate function lets you know how fast your ascending and if you go to fast it will yell at you. have 15 dives under its wings and havent had a problem yet. the only problem i can for see is the plastic protective cover getting scratched up the unit comes with 2 of them but its all up to how to treat your equipment

This computer has all the functions that I need for recreational diving. Many people told me it was too simple and that it couldnt be connected to a computer, turns out it does the same thing as other more expensive ones and I found a hack to download the profiles with the suunto cable from the more expensive models. Very easy to use. I am very pleased with the choice.

Product worked really well! Several dives on it and everything was amazing! The dives are easily accessed post-dive in the handy log-book function, making logging my dives simple and fun! Haven't used it for altitude or Nitrox YET but plan on doing so soon!

It shipped without an English manual, but I download that on Suunto’s website. I set the date and time, and it was ready to use the weekend of my certification open water dives. The long strap allowed me to put the watch on with cold water gloves, and it fit around a 7mm wetsuit and gloves on my wrist. It was easy to read underwater without a backlight display, but I do plan on using it when I do night water dives. I navigated through the menus easily at the end my four dives at Gilboa Quarry in Ohio.

I use the wrist mount Suunto Gekko unit. It was affordable and even though it's not advertised to interface with your PC it does using the proper software and usb cord. It's easy to operate. It's easy to read and understand. Several of my frieds have made the purchase after seeing mine.

Great all around computer, use it in warm water and once in awhile cold water. Easy to use and the fuctions and memory are great. It's so simple and basic and does everything you need it to do except for PC down loads, but I'm old school and log everything in a log book anyway. This is a better Computer than Suunto leads you to believe. It does indeed have the ability to Computer download to a PC. If you buy the cable and Find a Hack on the internet it ALMOST has the same abilities as the Viper. For Macintosh no hacking required if you use MacDiveLog. A really great buy.

I've had this computer for about a year now, and It has worked wonderfully. Once you get used to the navigation, you can take advantage of a lot of its features.

It's probably a bit big to carry around during a scuba diving weekend, and the strap is really long (maybe one day I'll have the need for such a long strap). However, it's a great purchase, and certainly worth the price.

Get a couple of extra protectors.

This is a great computer for a diver who is/is not Nitrox certified. It's very reliable and easy to read. If you don't need to download your dives, or use a Mac where almost no dive software is compatible. Then this one is for you. It i perfect for the recreational diver who does not do gas switching during deco dives. My wife uses this as well and loves it. Great for the diver all the way up through Divemaster. When you finally get into Tech diving, you will need a second bottom timer and depth gauge, at this time keep this one and then buy a multi gas unit. You can't go wrong with the Gecko!

This is my second purchase of a Gekko, this time for my son. I have used mine for over a year and have been satisfied. The programing is not real intuitive, but with a bit of practice you can get to all the functions you need. All the basic functions are easy to get to. This has been a good basic affordable computer.

For the price this is an excellent dive computer. It performs as well as my buddy's expensive dive computer and looks great too. It takes a bit of practice to learn how to navigate the controls, but I much prefer only having 3 buttons. After 150 dives I have no complaints.

I have replaced the battery twice and it has never given me any trouble. It has increased my dive time. It can be difficult to manipulate underwater but there typically is no reason to adjust it under water.

I think this computer is an excellent value. It's simple to operate and works well in both cold and warm water. The readout will continue to glow for several hours after exposure to light. I don't do much Nitrox diving, but I'm glad it has ability to accommodate it. The only thing I would mention is that there's no interface for tracking your air supply. If you want a computer that does that, you'll have to spend a lot more money. I personally don't mind using the traditional air gage. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Gekko.

This has been a great first computer for me. It is less expensive because it lacks a few features that I can live without like a backlight and PC download. It can handle nitrox though and I like the analogue tank pressure gauge so even if the battery dies (which it never has) I'll know how much air I've got left. The controls are intuitive and user friendly.
