used in hawaii, able to hold still in strong surge
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I used it for snorkeling in the Caribbean. I have not yet tried it for Scuba. The fins were quite large. Make sure you get the right fin bag size for it. The fins were quite powerful as I was able to swim quickly for two people with some currents. I had the XL fin set at "1". I wore the Deep See dive boots which was quite thicker than average dive boots. I am 6'2, 245lbs (wearing the fins) and the other person I pulled was a female 5'3 at 110lbs. She was learning to snorkel as I pulled her by the hand. Great fins!

Have used these fins on last 9 dives to include the 7th when one of the buckle attachments on the fin failed. Currently am using these fins in Africa with one side tied up with string... still working though. Would like an inside scoop on replacement buckles to bring it back up to "issued" status.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These fins are too heavy in relation to the thrust they put out. In other words, if you are going to sport a heavy fin then it should put out some thrust, the slingshot is way heavy and little to moderate thrust.. The slingshot adjustable feature has 3 settings, 2 of which are useless in any type of current (too loose). Setting 3 gives you the most tension and the fins work okay in this setting, however there are silicone bands that are attached to the foot pocket (slingshot system) and they are starting to show serious ware after less than a year with small chunks missing at the point where the band attaches to the foot pocket. If the band were to snap off while diving you would have no use of the fin. Too many moving parts for this to be reliable for any serious or avid rec diver.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Received these as a gift last Christmas and have used them on roughly 8 freshwater dives since that time. I have been really happy with the performance of the fin but a bit disappointed with the durability of the hardware. Even with my light usage I have already had a strap/buckle break.
Over all I would recommend but caution to keep extra hardware handy so as not to ruin a dive trip.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
3 position tension adjustment for the power bands is a big plus. Very comfortable midfoot hinge and large foot pocket for boots. Very good thrust. Took one flag for pricey power band spares. My only concern is the reliabilty and longevity of the power bands. Inspect every trip.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I just used these in Cozumel for the first time, 4 dives in two days between 50 & 90 ft. The last dive was a wreck dive in a strong current. Everyone but me were wearing Meres and were struggling with the current, I never even felt the need to stiffen the adjustable power bands to deal with the current, these fins easily handled it while on their softest settings. When we got back on the boat I was the only one without any blisters on our toes, even those wearing booties, while I was barefoot. The foot pocket is large enough for thick booties, but soft and comfortable enough to wear barefoot, I wear a size 14 shoe.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I absolutely LOVE these fins. Sooooo incredibly fast (almost too fast, in fact... I felt like I was barely moving my legs and my dive partner was struggling to keep up with her brand new Tusa split fins), and the adjustability of effort using the bands is great. One odd things I noticed, on setting 3 they were great on the surface, but (for me) were too much effort at depth; but on setting 1 they were great at depth but sucked wind on the surface. Also, you'll find they are pretty positively buoyant (great for keeping you in a horizontal position while swimming underwater) but can be a pain to fight to kick down into the water while on the surface or snorkling.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Very efficient...just a great fin!

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Bought these for me and my wife. Although, we're still waiting to scuba with them, we've tested them out for some snorkeling. My wife swears by them... she likes them better than the scubapro split fins she used for openwater certification. the powerbands are key. She has her's set to 1... I myself like mine on 3. I initially had a size 10 3mm soft sole and bought the regular instead of small. I found that it still was a bit too big for me (probably because I wear 8.5 normal shoes, and my 3mm soft soles fit 1 size to small... and threw me off on fin size).... No problem, picked up some 3mm Seasoft Sunray warm water low tops with hard soles from Leisure Pro and it fixed my issue. Hard Sole prevented certain foot cramping I initially felt. So yes I am vouching for both the Slingshots and the Sunrays.

just what I needed
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
The only problem is that I would go too fast with the same effort as my old fins. Great for saving air for longer dives.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Was diving in Cozumel, Mexico and had a Band snap at 100 feet. Not fun! Like swimming with a Flat tire. Can't kick. I had to rent fins for the rest of the week.Called Leisure Pro when I returned they sent me two Bands.Diving in Lake Michigan two weeks ago, 50 feet down and had another Band snap.I called Leisure Pro to return the FINS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I'm going with something else. These fins have cost me too much.* Abandoned Dive in Cozumel and didn't do 2nd Tank.* Abandoned Dive in Lake Michigan - Cost of the Boat.* [...]** And One very upset Dive Partner - same friend on both dives.Further more, I called Aqua Lung to complain and they said Leisure Pro is not an Authorized Dealer for their Product. Also, Aqua Lung told me they had all kind of problems in the past with the Bands. About two years ago, they changed the Band design and haven't had any problems.I wonder if Leisure Pro Sold me a new old design of the fin. In any event, I've had enough.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These fins provide ample power and propulsion. They're pretty heavy out of the water, but the speed makes up for it. They are really, really big. It looks like I bought them a few weeks too early, because the Seawing Nova's just came out! Overall, I like the fins and I'm glad I have them. They make you look really experienced! Easily one of the best fins out there. There's a reason they got second place at Scubalab!
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I train rescue divers and in the water most days. My equip. is old but in good condition. The general comment I get is that "smithsonian wants their equipment back". My 1975 jet fins work fin but I tried a pair of Sling shots and fell in love. I doubted the adjustment bands would show any difference in force, but they do.

First pair of fins. I used it for OW class. LDS is selling for almost 2x the price, so LP's price is pretty good. Later I found out LP is not authorized reseller of AL brand, but I counldn't care less, I don't think these fins will require warranty serives.
No comments on performance since I have nothing to compare to. But these fins sure look good in water and out of water.
Fast delivery. LP serives was pretty good.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I bought a pair for my wife & I and they are everthing and then some!!! They take very little effort to use and the slingshot system really works great!!! We had Cressi's and they are no match for the slingshots. My wife said they were effortless to use and her calves didn't hurt after a week of diving in Beleze.

Other fins I have used recently have caused sore ankles and cramping. The Slingshot has been an absolute joy to dive with, cramp free and and capable of walking to the car after a dive. Highly recommended.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Just used these on my open water cert dives and loved them. I have a weak and poor form kick. With these, I kept leaving the pack with no effort. I believe a strong diver/swimmer would really take off with these. There was no leg fatigue after the 2 days. I only rated a 4 because I have only tried 2-3 other types of fins and do not have much to compare them to. FWIW, I used them set in the 1 and 2 setting (Easy and Medium)
I placed my order right at a long holiday in September or October and the website said things would be delivered on a given date after the holiday. My order came in 1-2 days earlier than projected. This was my first order here.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I used the slingshots while diving a cavern, the middle setting was too much for me on the first dive. After setting the band to the lower setting the second dive was great ! I really like that i can set the bands to my comfort level for different diving situations.

These fins are really good. I do not love the strap though, I find it hard to get on and off. The button to loosen the strap does not always work the way it should.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I use these just about daily and love the sling shots, you can adjust them according to the current if it picks up. I dive with mostly 1 setting and once in while when some current comes, you can easily move to the number two slot underwater. Less fatigue and makes your dive great with the sling shot fins,Man, you fly! The only thing I wish they would offer, is a size smaller, example: they need an extra small size for smaller feet now, like for a 5/6 foot. And the fins straps on sides to release, I like the ones the black and gray offer the BEST!! than the blue and the red color ones, are harder to squeeze to release, I have tried them both! However I do like the grips on the sides and back of fins to snug up the fin straps! The black and Silver fins have the hook up I like, easy for me to push in and it releases with ease! They should offer the same fin straps for the blue and silver and red and silver as well. Other than that they are not heavy fin like I have read in the other reviews! Perfect for packing, traveling, advance diving, Novice, beginner. I recommend them to all my friends and wowzer, You will feel and see the difference in them when you dive. For the small foot person, You wish they made an extra small in these fins! Happy Diving!
Yes,very prompt indeed I received my product and in good condition of course.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Dove in Santorini and Ermioni, Greece, with these fins. Worked very well in the open ocean- the adjustable bands compensated for the currents and propelled us with ease. Since I just had ACL replacement / surgury, I needed a fin that was easy on my knee. They were very comfortable and created no pain on my recovering knee.
Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
Fins are heavy, but once in the water, you won't notice it. These things move you easily through the water.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These are by fare the best fins that i own i have kinetixs and mares which are good fins but the comfort and fit are right on and they do exactly what they say I have had NO CRAMPS or NO FATIGUE and used these fins on same dives that i had cramps or fatigue on and I am usally one to find whats wrong with something then the one to say other wise I do have to say that i think they were a little on the pricey side but I say it was worth it.and the kcik to speed ratio is a good payback before you know it you are 30 yards away from every one else great fin BIG THUMBS UP FOR AquaLung

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These fins are what they are advertised to be in that they are powerful and are easy on the feet. However, my first use of the fins did not last one day in open water. It may be a fluke, but one of the power bands broke near the fin end of the band. They became unusable during my second dive of the day. Fortunately I brought a second set of fins. I was on an 8-day live aboard trip in Thailand and would have not been able to dive had I not thought to bring spare fins. This flaw is crippling to a dive trip if they are your only fins and it should be addressed at the manufacturer's level. For their price, this is a very big risk.
Having said this, Leisurepro has provided excellent service and will be replacing my fins. I am more than willing to try them again. I believe this incident is isolated and probably won't happen again. But I will take a spare pair just in case.
When the fins did work, they were very powerful and there is less stress on the foot. The fin is isolated from the foot pocket allowing the action of the fin to take place without bending the foot.
The foot pocket is a little wide but they are very comfortable.
Another drawback is their length when it comes to packing. They are a long fin, so have a big dive if you want to travel with them. Their length and width provide excellent power, however.
Great product. I just got the one in a million misfit fin. Perhaps I will write another review when I test the replacement fins.
Leisurepro has consistently provided excellent service and has an excellent replacement policy. I have purchase nearly all of my dive gear from them and will continue to do so. I have been in Afghanistan and Iraq for more than three years and they deliver within 10 days with no issues. Their website is easy to use and they have a great assortment.
Leisurepro is great!!!

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I bought the same fins for my wife and myself. I can't say enough to get my point across to anyone that would be looking for new fins. These are the one's to get!!!! The ajustments the fins have are great for changing currents befor you dive or while diveing. They are very comfortable,(my wife had cramping issues befor) we just came back from Mexico, and she neaver had a cramp while diving or snorkeling. The only thing i would do different with these fins..........i bought the same color for both of us. On my last dive i ended up leaving the hotel with one of my fins, and one of my wife's. Not the same size....I put the smaller one on my strong leg, and the larger one on my other leg. I could not tell that i had two different size fins on. They worked great together!!! Great product.

These things are great; the only thing that proved difficult for me was getting the correct size; I had to return one pair and keep another for my Son; eventually I got the correct size, like I said before these fins are the best.....

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These are my fourth pair of fins and with these fins it's like having 3 different pairs of fins in one - Easy to adjust for the type of dive your are doing that day. I can adjust them so that I can just cruise, or add a little speed to the dive or just slow down and enjoy the view. Now when I travel I'm sure I will have the right pair of fins!

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These are great fins but I wish I would have gotten the smaller ones (I wear 8.5 womens and got regular) my boots slide around a little when I have them on. They are not great at the surface, I think something lighter weight would be better if you were just snorkeling. Underwater the blades add tons of propulsion.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
As a military diver i have tried just about every fin under the sun. Everything from the original rockets to force fins to bio fins and let me tell you the slingshots are head and shoulders above the rest. They greatly reduce fatigue and cramping. If you arent the fastest finner, the slingshots are very efficient. I am a very strong finner and i frequently have to reduce the setting to "1" when diving with others, if not i find myself stopping and waiting for everyone else :) I was very skeptical about these fins when i seen the ads but i have been pleasently suprised. You would be silly to buy another pair of fins

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
amazingly powerful. Great for when you need to swim in strong currents. If you have rubber legs or have not been to the gym in the last 6 months stretching before and after the dive will prevent cramps.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I tried these in the pool first on the #1 setting and found it was too easy to kick. I changed to the #2 setting and that was just right. I used them in the open ocean in some current and was able to easily hold position against the current while looking at a stone fish in some coral. I also had to be careful not to kick too hard when finning with the current or I would run the other divers over. I love these fins!

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I love these fins. I dive most every weekend out of the year, be it in New Hampshire during the summer or the odd week in December or January, or while I am at college in Miami. They have yet to fail me. They will fit my big 7 mm, or drysuit boots during the winter, and during the summer i can slip in with a dive sandle. One thing that I had to get use to was the width, I was used to keeping my feet close together but with these you need a little space because the are wider. The three "gear" settings are a amazing feature. I seldom use it on the hardest, you will feel a workout, but even with strong current I just reach down change and it becomes easy to kick. I had them when I got rescue and advanced rescue and they work amazing with that. They are easy on the legs towing long distances. I found the only hard part is snorkeling with them, they are a bit big and heavy for that.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
You can't go wrong with these fins... They are the most comfortable fin pockets I have ever had my feet in... You can feel the power difference as you "change gears" from first to third... I use them in both inland fresh water and salt water... you can take on some current with these babies...Definately recommend these!!!!

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
When i read about this fin i thought it showed real promise, not to mention the fact they just look cool. I am used to stiffer paddle fins so i put these on the mid setting starting my surface swim i began to get real tired (kinda out of shape). I stopped and right there in the water i went to a more forgiving setting which was easy to do even in the waves. the dive was outstanding. I will use these fins again and recommend them to anyone who is considering them.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
I just tried these fins this weekend and at first didn't notice that much of a differnce between these and my blades, but then tried my old fin on one foot and the slingshot on my other foot. What a world of differnce! Kick with ease on the first setting or move it to the third setting for a more stiff feel. Its easy to change settings under water as well.

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
The Aqualung Slingshot fins let you utilize your full strength and recoil from the slings that makes diving easier and more efficent on air consumption. They may not be the cheapest ones, but still they're quite affordable and an excelent choice for experienced divers. The slingshot calibration and regulation let you costumize the resistance and recoil power you're looking for depending on currents and ease. I'd fully recomed these ones.
Fast and reliable delivery, safe packing, product according to specs

Comments about Aqualung AquaLung Slingshot Open Heel Fins:
These fins are amazing. Exactly what I expected out of high end fins. They are extremely comfortable. There is no strain or pressure on the top of my foot or ankles. The best way to describle them is they allow you to propel yourself smoothly and comfortably. They are truly the best fins I have tried and well worth the money.
