(based on 14 ratings)
Brand: Scubapro
Located in: Essential Equipment, Computers
The Smart Tec is a wrist mounted, hose-less, gas-integrated dive computer that can monitor the nitrox mixtures from 21 to 100% in asmany as three tanks. You can set your depth limit up to 400 ft. Divers who are in cold water have a different rate of air consumption then a diver in warm water. The Smart Tec considers this in its air consumption calculations and will adjust the consumption time accordingly. Decompression status is up-dated when switching to another gas mixture and the computer will compensate if switch to another gas is not made or is made late. The features of this computer continue making it one of the most comprehensive dive computers available. Oh yea! It's an alarm clock too.

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

This is a very thorough computer. It can monitor three tanks, all with different O2 mixes. It also has 5 levels of gradual assents to choose from.A few problems with it though. 1)The transmitter needs to be on the same side as the watch hand for it to obtain readings. 2)You need to buy an IR transmitter ($60) in order to get the dive profiles. 3)The product description is misleading with regards to the alarm clock. It doesn't have one (not even a watch). 4)The battery is only factory replaceable. 5)Lastly the screen protectors pop off easily. We lost our first one on our first dive. I bought two extra ones as backups at [$] a pop.

Service & Delivery comments:

I bought two and one was defective out of the package. Leisurepro did exchange it promptly.

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

This is the best dive Computer I ever owned, Loaded with functionality and I can honestly say this computer helped me to become a good diver. The only thing I don't like about it is you have to send it in to get battery replaced I found a place that will do it way cheaper than scuba pro in Culver City. Other than that the Computer is Amazing both me and my girlfriend own one! You cant beat the price on this site either!

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

I upgraded from the air Z Nitro to the Smart Tec. Both are great dive computers, however the Transmitter Flex hose available from Uwatec should not be used. On shore dives on the president in Vanuatu the computer froze twice swimming out to the descent point, when I removed the Flex hose it operated flawlessly. I concluded as I was swimming out to the descent point the waves caused to hose to flex thereby varying the pressure to the transmitter and "confusing" the computer. So screw it directly into the first stage is the way to go!!

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

I have owned this unit for a little less than a year, and have logged well over 100 OW dives on it. It is a great little computer and has helped extend my learning curve tremendously in terms of gas management. I always dive a redundant set-up, and this computer teams up well with the UWaTec Bottom Timer. I haven't experienced any sort of pairing issues, nor have I had any sort of excessive battery drains: the meter is currently at 75%...
Can't wait to upgrade to the Galileo

Cons:
Complicated, Expensive to fix, Expensive to maintain, Hard To Read
Best Uses:
None - not reliable

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

Have had nothing but problems with this device - battery only lasted 7 months (did about 12 dives with it).
It is suppose to allow up to 3 transmitters on 3 separate tanks - it would only pair with one transmitter (I was told it was a software problem). Any Maintenance requires it to be returned to dealer - even batteries.
I have owned other Uwatec/ScubaPro items and all have been excellent. This is the first that I would not recommend for use on any kind of dive.

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

Have used this computer in cold quarry dives and open ocean from New England to Aruba and west. Works well dont have any regrets, has great planner nice safety stop timer and gets you outta deco obligations if it happens. I am sad that the temp function isnt accurate, quarry temps of 38 read 31 to 34 deg on readout.

Comments about Scubapro Uwatec Aladin Smart Tec Hoseless Wrist Air/Nitrox Computer with Transmitter:

Uwatec has produced a great all-around performer in the Smart TEC. I would say it is not a real TEC computer but it will allow for multiple tanks. Nice display with an easy to use menu setup. Holds 99 dives and is syncable with a PC not a MAC. Very accurate Depth Reading. Accent meter is almost to sensative with no way to adjust. This means if you are accending and raising your arm your computer will deep. You can also adjust how conservative the nitrogen absorption algorithm is with the microbubble settings L1-L5. I found the Suunto's algorithm way too conservative and the oceaenic too liberal. The Uwatec is great at L0 setting and you can go to five more conservative settings if you want. Overall a great computer. No regrets
