The Smart COM offers diver-controlled microbubble suppression, something that is sought after by professional divers. Plainly stated, this feature allows divers to use one of five bubble suppression levels to minimize the formation of bubbles in the diver's soft tissue after repetitive dives. This reduces the damage that can be sustained by soft tissue due to prolonged exposure to diving at depth.

I have had mine since it first came out many years ago, I just bought another one for my son
I couldnt be happier with it
The accent alarm is very sencitive, It will even go off if you raise it up real fast to look at it.
It will let you know right away if you are coming up to fast

My wife and I have the same dive computer, mine works fine (purchased Sep-02). They were recalled in 2004-5. During the first few years the quick disconnect would leak excessively. We had to replace the "O" rings multiple times (sometimes on the same trip). Uwatec seemed to have solved the leakage problem. My wife's computer started reading erratically during our Nov-07 dive trip. We paid $190 to repair it. During our 2008 dive trip it worked fine. However, just before our 2009 dive trip, it was locked up with a 'E6' code. I don't know what Uwatec will say, but I don't want to pay another $190 for repairs and only have it work on one trip.

I am a Professional Dive Instructor and work for Dive Centres. I rely on my computer as I can do up to 4 dives in a day. The computer is easy to use, very visible and all the information necessary is readily to hand.Had one problem after a year of use with the battery still showing 85% left it locked up and would not go into normal mode after the dive. I needed to do a third dive and was unable to use the computer or access any information to be able to use tables. I had to cancel the third dive.I live in Mexico and the Scubapro dealer here would not deal with the warranty and I had to send it back to the USA [...] Unfortunately I have had to use a rental computer for 6 weeks while trying to rectify the problem. I have been using UWATEC computers for 18 years and have always enjoyed them in my line of work. This was just one of those electronic glitches, that unfortunately because of SCUBAPRO's policy about buying over the internet. [...]

I am using the smartcom since 5 years now. I am perfectly satisfied. Easy to read, as conservative as you set it up, reliable, intuitive. Superb, excellent product !
Improvements: battery not user replaceble, console deserves a better quality compass.

I have used this computer for almost 2 years. Overall, I like it, but would buy another one. Echoing a previous comment, I had problems w/ it on 2 separate multi day spearfishing trips. Once it conched out on day one and required replacement under warrantee and the other time it corrected himself. I have had no problems on single day trips. I would not recommend it for live aboard/multi day trips.
It certainly has lots of features and user-programable choices. VERY conservative when compared to several different Oceanic computers

A big disadvantage, You need to send it back to the dealer every time you need to change the batery and it takes a month to have it back. You can miss a lot of dives waiting, happened to me.

It is easy to use once you read the manual, which is simple to follow and educational - I learnt additional things or it clarified previous things I thought I knew.
The software that comes with it is fantastic and once data transfer is accomplish a huge amount of data can be downloaded. You can even store photos of things corresponding to that dive.

I have had to return mine under warranty and they sent a replacement. While on a live aboard recently, both mine and another diver's Smart Com failed at least twice, mine three times.
This same issue ocurred while I was in Bonaire, on two dives.

Nicely designed SPG. Nitrox level adjustable in 1% increments. Can be disconnected for RF uploading of log information to computer or PDA.
Console is sensitive to bumps and bangs from dive boat and care must be taken to protect computer from damage.

I tend to get lazy with this computer, the information stored along with the software make it easy for someone to forget how to use an RDP or even a Wheel.

Does everything I would want it to do. There are only 2 drawbacks. The features are sometimes hard to operate due to the contact switched. Not a big deal, and only applicable on the surface. The other problem is that it will not tell you time in or time out until you download it to your laptop. I've used this one and Suunto. I'll take the SmartCom every time.

This is a great all around computer for almost any level diver. Easy to use with pre set safety features that can be modified for advanced divers or nitrox. Continous sampling to compensate for different depths, air consumption, activity etc.

After 25 years of diving and several as an instructor this is the best I have ever used. All the alarms are pre-set for maximum safety but can be changed for more experienced divers. The ability to download to my PC makes my dive life east to track. I will never buy another computer!

This computer is great for recreational diving. It has modes for air and nitrox. This computer is very easy to use and has a lot of great features. The PC program that comes with it is great also. The only con I can think of, besides not being able to do a multi gas dive, is that the ascent alarm is kinda touchy. But, I guess that will help you keep your ascents nice and slow!
