Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

Have only had it out on 2 dives. All worked fine except for the fact that I cannot adjust my own safety margin, and in particular where I like my safety stop. For example, after a deco dive, it wanted me to spend 15-20 min at 10', in choppy waters hanging onto a line you can easily be pulled up and down 6-8'. I'd prefer my stop at 20' but it spends its time constantly telling you to go to a shallower depth. It is a bit annoying. Beyond that it is all that was expected, and has air/nitrox capability which is a plus. COmes with an extremely long wrist/leg band that can be easilyt cut to fit your needs.

works well it is just hard to get it set on one function. You push it and get it where you want it and then you push to go through that function and it goes to the next. same with tryin to turn on the light instead of the light comin on it will go through functions. It does work very well for the money!!!! I would buy it again.

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

I am a public safety diver for a search and rescue team and I end up diving in conditions that most divers wouldn't even begin to think of diving. I sometimes dive in complete black water conditions the back light feature and the large buttons are great for this. I also know I can trust the computer every time to keep me safe.

I think this computer offers several items that make it a great value. It has an easy to read screen. User replaceable batteries. The computer compartment cannot be flooded. Uses AAA batteries. The only con is that you need to practice with the key functions before diving with it. Once you practice using the key functions and understand them, it a great bargin.

More Con's than Pro's
By EVMVerified Reviewer from Georgia on 11/14/2007
Pros:
Low Cost
Cons:
Complicated, Hard To Read, Non-Intuitive Manual
Best Uses:
Recreation, Warm Water
Describe Yourself:
Advanced Diver, Recreational Diver
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

The Screen is relatively easy to read (despite my Old Eyes), however you have to read the manual to figure out how the Backlight function Can be enabled. The poorly written(ie: confusing) manual, only contributes to the frustration of trying to figure out how to utilize the functions of this Non-Intuitive computer. As my experience has grown, I have found that the lack of Nitrogen Load meter is a major shortcoming. In between dives I have to break out the Manual to figure out where I stand for my next dives - I end up just going back to the handy Dive Table - It's much easier to use than this thing.

One big reason I bought this unit is because of it's PC interface.....Problem is - It don't work!

Bottom line - The Price was right, and it's adaquate for the first dive of they day, but the non-intuitive setup and difficult to understand manual cause me to dig out my RDP Dive Tables to plan my subsequent dives. I'm going to end up getting a better(and more expensive) one sooner rather than later and use this for my backup computer. Then my wife will kill me for wasting my $$ on this one. (who said SCUBA ain't dangerous)

Instructions not the best

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

I read through the direction book and I didn't think it was very clear. I had a dive shop owner go through the functions and that helped. A couple of things to keep in mind, it does not have an easy disconnect and it does not have a function to set time for any unpredicted surfaces, such as weight adjustment/etc. It counts each ascent to the surface even a brief one after descent as an individual dive. If you get it in the Mares 2 package, you cannot beat the bargain. I just ordered the compass kit that attaches to the computer..[$]

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

This product is very user friendly. I think that it is very easy to read during the dive allowing you to keep track of No Dec times. I did find that the buttons were hard to press, whether in the water or on the surface. I contribute it to being new and hope that it will require less pressure to depress the buttons in the future.

Basic computer console
By OCVerified Purchaser from Long Island, NY on 11/9/2007
Pros:
Lots Of Functions, Reliable
Cons:
Complicated, Hard To Read
Best Uses:
Cold Water, Recreation, Warm Water
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Diver
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

Manual is a bit limited. Using the computer without reading the manual took a good 10 minutes of playing around to figure out how to set it up as there were only 2 buttons, making it difficult to go to different functions. (Buttons needed to be pressed & held down long enough to get to nested menus.)

Not for the non-techie as it's not the most user-friendly, but works for most applications.

LCD does not have backlighting, and some displays are too small, especially close to the top of the screen. Keeps history of dives w/ date, start time, max depth & time at each depth (minute-by-minute review), temperature, etc. Can be used for enriched air / nitrox.

Pressure guage is accurate. Wish there was an integrated compass though.

Get a retractable console holder to keep the computer from dragging behind you especially when hoving close to the bottom.

Service & Delivery comments:

Quick delivery. Box looked used/opened, item was not (re)packaged neatly, but all signs tell me that this appears to be new. Includes batteries.

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

It is a nice wrist computer and had bigger readout than many of the smaller round models. The book is not intuitive, but the simulation program is much easier to use than my Oceanic Viso-pro. The buttons are still hard to press and your fingers do get sore when running several simulations.

Overall great computer, the only problem i have had is when trying to get the back light on. With only the two buttons on the face that control all functions if you are going threw the functions then want the back light on it takes a min. because it still wants to go threw functions instead of turning on the light. once you get the light on it is fine intill you go threw the functions again.

I have the Dacor model of the same computer. Very easy to read, especially u/w. I like the cost/benefit ratio of this computer, and it works very well in the recreational area (I have not used it in deco dives). Buttons on the Dacor are somewhat difficult to push properly, but a nice computer nevertheless.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

I really like this computer; especially for the price!!! It has all of the functions of more expensive computers. If you can't justify purchasing a $400 or higher computer, buy this one instead.

I purchased it prior to beginning my Rescue Diver certification. It is easy to use and program (Air or Nitrox, Altitude). The batteries may be replaced by the user quite easily (can't use rechargable batteries, as not enough amps), which was something for which I sought.

Only problem I have experienced is when I put the Battery Compartment Case top back on. I did not install properly, so the batter contact was lost and it shut off (as if no battery in compartment) after the first dive of the day; I believe this was my fourth or fifth day of multi-dive days.

Dive was logged prior to loss of contact, so dive profile was not lost; but, unable to use for next dive. Luckily, as usual, I had used my watch, SPG and RDP as a back-up. Corrected the problem that night once I got back home. Batteries were still good, just bad contact. Took the opportunity to re-grease the O-Ring when reinstalling the battery compartment cover. Has worked fine ever since.

Comments about Mares Mares M2 "RGBM" Computer Console:

This thing is easy to read and works well. I've logged 32 dives using it so far and no troubles. The computer download feature is nice also. The only complaint I have is that there is no Nitrogen Tissue loading bar or information available. It shows your available NDL in planning mode and dive mode which is all that really matters though. The tissue loading bar would just be a nice option. A very minor complaint. This computer is a little more conservative than several others that buddies use. Is that good or bad thats your call.
