Brand: Poseidon
Located in: Essential Equipment, Buoyancy Compensators
W50 is a sport-wing designed to perform well for both beginners and more experienced divers. Equipped with ClamRetract it gives a great volume increase as well as superior bladder deflation capabilities. In fact, deflated, the W50 has the smallest size (drag) of all bladder models within the BESEA range. Four dump valves and an inflator with a stainless steel mechanism ensures inflation and deflation is always controlled and safe. Furthermore, the shape of the bladder compensates for the weight of the tank when submerged and helps give you total freedom to move in any direction. The narrow air passage behind the neck is designed not to restrict head movement or foul regulators and hoses when inflated.

The BESEA W50 is made for equipment with a negative weight in water that does not exceed 19 kg (41,6 lbs) and has a lifting capacity of 225 N. A double, non-flex tank-band tank attachment system is delivered with the BESEA W50 which can also be equipped with integrated weight pockets, accessory pockets, metal back plate, Q.M.R.-system, Pinbolt kit and D-rings.

The Harness:

The Advanced Harness is a combination of the very best among conventional BCD's and the very best among backpacks for hiking. In fact, when used on land and on the boat the harness shall provide a comfortable relieve of the weight of the cylinders. High-class backpacks have excellent constructions for this particular purpose, and it is obvious that similar ideas can be recognised on the Besea as well. The weight of the cylinders is transferred directly into the rigid lower part of the back, and further lead to the soft padding of the lumbar support cushion to be dissolved. The upper and softer part of the back ensures the cylinder will not tilt backwards, and the stress on shoulders and sensible ganglia is dramatically reduced.

The advanced model is an extended version of the sport model developed for really extended use. It exhibits entirely 1000 Denier Ballistic materials and all webbing is Nylon. All inside surfaces are covered with VentoMesh, and even the waist belt is padded and pre curved. The 40cc system enables mounting of quick release integrated weight pockets, accessory pocket(s), and D-rings in a variety of positions.

Crotch strap with tow ring comes as standard, as do an extra tank band for redundancy. The advanced model is prepared to be fitted with the pinbolt kit for fastening of twin cylinders.

Comments about Poseidon Poseidon BeSea W50 BC:

Like all others this BC has its advantages and disadvantages but you will find features in the BeSea W50 that you will get nowhere else.

The padding and harness system is simply perfect in terms of carrying your rig when out of the water. It feels more like a hiking backpack than a BC rig.

Everything about the BeSea is very robust including the power inflater which feels much more solid than in any other BC I've used. Overall the construction feels bullet proof with looped webbing where other BCs usually have stitching. However, the robust materials and construction make it heavy to travel with.

The grommet system makes for nice modular configuration options with the two standard D-rings, however, the modular configuration is both an advantage in terms of options and a disadvantage in terms of price as each piece, e.g. weight pockets and extra D-rings are not cheap. (For what you are paying Poseidon really should throw in some weight pockets with the system.)

On the subject of weight pockets, the Poseidon weight pockets are great in terms of size and durability but as for dumping the weight they need improvement. Also, I decided to go with an OMS trim weight pocket mounted on the bottom tank strap which is less expensive and works better than the Poseidon trim pocket.

In the water the BeSea is absolutely perfect. With about two pounds on the tank strap it balanced very nicely for me on the surface. Under water the position is perfectly horizontal which I like. One important note though, all the padding on the BeSea translates to some positive buoyancy so I have to carry 3 or 4 lbs. extra to compensate but the added weight is more than made up for in the carrying comfort on the surface.

Buoyancy control is made very easy with three well positioned dump valves and the best power inflator I've ever used.

The Besea is a very robust and capable BC, however, much of the debate about the BeSea stems from how it stacks up against certain harness and wing systems which is not a perfectly fair contest. While the BeSea can be converted for tech use with optional steel or aluminum plates and hardware for mounting doubles, out of the box the BeSea is more of a super capable rec BC with some tech capabilities rather than a full blown tech BC. However, due to its robust construction many compare it to tech rigs which may be unfair. The fact is that the BeSea has the general appearance of a tech rig and the capacity to be converted into one but it is primarily a rec BC which when compared to other back inflation rec BCs leaves nothing else in its class.

Comments about Poseidon Poseidon BeSea W50 BC:

Our Public Safety Dive Team has been using Seatec Customs BC's for years. Last year we started evaluating replacements. We loved the Poseidon! It fits a wide range of divers well. Yes it is complicated to assemble and adjust the first time, but once you have it set, it is VERY comfortable. It rides very well in the water and carries the load very well on land. You can customize hook on points thanks to the grommet system. The quick dump Wt pocket and accessory pockets are of little use. They could be better designed. This is not an issue since our suits have pockets and we use DUI Wt system. The other thing you will notice is how clean and streamlined you will feel in the water. The Poseidon is not bulky, nice low profile.

Comments about Poseidon Poseidon BeSea W50 BC:

impress every one around you, but not you, good looking bc, nice shape, and makes lifting tanks more easy than ever.
but here are the nightmares:

- difficult to adjust the first time.
- bottom strap kills you (especially males...!!) had to replace it with zeagle double strap.
- bladder inside the wing puncuated from the second dive, i was responsible somehow but still its not that heavy duty as i thought when it comes to the wing.

as overall, my choices were this one and the zeagle ranger, i wish i could go back and buy the ranger.

and dont forget, when you buy this bc, you have to add the weight pockets and regular pockets which is gonna cost you $$$.
