Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

[...]We let it charge at the store overnight. We try to test it and unit three doesn't even turn on. We try the battery in unit two. It works. I take it to the pool to get used to it and it floods in 12 feet of water. Luckily [...] has a decent return policy within 7 days. Two big name scuba shops I called have had the same problems with this unit on charging and flooding. Buyer beware.

When I received the product it sure looked good. Got a chance to use it 3 times to a MAX depth of 53 feet. It flooded and stopped working.Sent it in for repairs only to have the shop misplace it. took them 2 months to tell me that they must replace it with a new one. But, it's a different place that will send to me. [...]What ever you do do not buy this item, IT"S JUNK

It flooded at less than 100 feet.
This is the 2nd one I have had. First one flooded the motor compartment. 2nd flooded Battery and Motor comp.'s. It was returned and the second flooded exactly the same. Sorry guys! This scooter is the NO GOOD!!. Spend the money and buy the higher buck one, I hear it doesn't flood. But I'll let you know. I will say for the 10 minutes that it worked it was nice. But this was my first scooter experience.

Delivery was expeditited and prompt!

Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

This unit flooded on my very first dive to 95'. It's rated to 160'. I sent it to the repair center under warranty. They have no way to test it to that depth, so they have offered to send a new one. It won't be available for two and a half months. By then, our diving season is over without a dry suit.

This is a shallow water toy. Stay away from it if you dive at any significant depths.

Service & Delivery comments:

Customer service can't depth test the unit for leakage.

Not For Deep Diving
By JeffVerified Reviewer from Morehead City NC on 8/10/2008
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Floods at Depth
Best Uses:
Shallow Diving
Describe Yourself:
Advanced Diver
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

On my first dive to 95 feet the unit flooded. Not a lot of water, but enough to set off the flood circuitry. This means it only works intermittently (when flooded). The unit is rated to 160 feet but flooded at 95 feet with new, clean, lubricated O rings.

My boat captain said another diver was on his boat a few days before me with a new Seadoo Explorer and his failed in exactly the same way as mine. Sounds like a design problem.

The unit was supposed to come with an extra set of O rings but they were not in the box. I called Seadoo, faxed them the receipt with an RA number, and three weeks later I still don't have my O rings.

If you want to use this as a shallow water toy then so be it, but I would not buy it for diving anywhere near the supposed depth rating. You are better off getting a used Oceanic Mako for about the same price.

If you do buy one of these get a scrap of an inner tube to cover the clamps. They aren't hard to open. I could easily see one snagging on other gear and opening under water.

Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

Bought this DPV for underwater research for our lab. We only bought one as a test before buying more, good thing. As soon as we dove past 5 meters the safety shutoff functions kicked in. It took 2 days to dry before it would run normally in a water tank. A pressure test showed the motor compartment was to blame, which means it has to be shipped back to the manufacture for repair. Obviously we wanted to ship it back in exchange for another one, [...] So now we have to send it out to Sea Doo to have it fixed and then we're still stuck with it. Bottom line, spend the extra $300 and buy a Torpedo, we have several with underwater cameras attached and have had no problems.

Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

This device failed on me four times. I bought three of them from a store and each time I returned it they gave me a new one. Finaly I ask for my money back, they gave it back. I tired a online store on the other side of the state, and it failed also. I think its internaly flooding not sure. Distributor, and stores keep saying there is a problem with the battery. I was in 10ft to 50ft of water. It failed in both depths. This product needs to be recalled.I only use this device about a hour each time before it broke, some did not even last that long. The company I'm dealing with says I have to ship it back, but the postage may cost alot seeing that it weighs 32lbs.
I don't recommend this device.

Comments about Sea-Doo Sea-Doo Explorer Sea Scooter:

I boujght two of these units only to have them both fail. I never took eiyher unit past 50 feet even though they are rated up to 100 feet. When I sent them back I they repaired them and on the very next dive in 15 feet of water again both flooded internally and this time they seized. When I sent one of them back to repair they told me it would cost more that what the unit was worth. In all I'd say I used them maybe 10 times apeice (if that) not impressed with this unit. I am an instructor and find these units poorly designed due to leakage and the manufacturer does little to help if you have a problem. If you want to keep from throwing your money away buy another unit!!! and good luck if you don't!!!

This scooter surprised me with its light weight and ease of use. Power was not an issue as I was able to tow another diver for two dives and indicator light was still yellow. Arms will feel it the next day. # speeds very useful when searching for artifacts.

Looked at this on the [...] web sit for 6 months and decided to give it a try. This is a great scooter. Had it in 100 feet of water today with no problems. Moves right along and allows you to make longer dives as you do not use up air, it does all the work. Battery life is axcellent. If you have been looking at them, buy one.

I've used cheaper versions of the Sea-Doo line, but the Explorer is the obvious choice for professional-grade underwater propulsion. And she handles like a beaut.[@] As always, happy diving.
