Years ago my instructor had a similar "quacker" It worked very well and got my attention every time. Now that I'm an instructor I wanted one to use with my students.

This is a really poor underwater noise maker. It makes a decent quack on the surface, but under water sounds like a wet fart. I could barely hear it myself, and I knew it was being pushed. My students couldn't hear it 5 feet away.

Maybe I got a bad one, as there are some good reviews on this, but if you're a professional looking for an underwater signal, I'd look elsewhere.

I am a full time SCUBA instructor that dives almost daily. I like an air powered underwater horn to obtain the attention of wandering students. The underwater noise level on this device is so low, that divers simply ignore it. What I need is a Hammerhead. I used a Hammerhead for years. Rebuilt it several times. Unfortunately the company no longer makes it and mine finally fell apart. To bad a company does not reproduce the quality and noisemaking ability of the Hammerhead. Do not spend [$] on this Aquatec alert device. A tank banger works as well

I purchased this product because it was supposed to have dual use - below surface and on surface as an emergency signal. It’s not very loud on the surface. Works as advertised submerged with the quacking sound, but doesn’t work as discussed in the reviews in both applications. I doubt a boat could hear me beyond 30 yards.

I bought two of them. Tried one several times during dives underwater. My wife could not hear it from 10 feet away. Totally useless.

I found that the device worked well to signal my buddy on my recent warm-water dives. I think two (or more) divers could work out a signaling system, or use Morse code to communicate with these as well. Some might say that it makes an entertaining quacking noise after the dive is over ;-)

Umimpressive on boat; several divers said they could barely hear it 10 ft away with motor going, so useless for signaling boat at surface. Similar situation below, only divers close by could hear it, so not very useful as a signaling device. Wouldn't bet my life on it.

Have heard good things about this product and was looking forward to trying it out. However, it's too wide to fit the inflator on my Tusa Liberator Sigma BCD, despite the claim that it fits all standard power inflators.

This is my second one, a different size for my Atomic Alternate Inflator set-up. It draws attention both underwater and on the surface. Good quality. Just follow the advice and rinse it with your other gear to keep it in good shape, also blast it prior to turning off your valve to keep it clean.

This was a gift to an instructor, and he loves it, works great. He used it on our last dive, and it works much better than any kind of tank banger or shaker for getting your attention underwater.

This little quacker is fun above water and would probably work very well in warm water. But in the water that I dive regularly it isn't loud enough to be heard with a 7 mil hood on. I have tried to use it to get my buddies attention on several occasions and I can barely hear it and it is right by my ear. I don't recommend for cold water situations. If I just needed a boat signaling devise I would have gotten a product just for above water.

The Aquatec Scub Alert Under Water Signaling Device is a must for all divers. I have a high frequency hearing loss and cannot hear tank bangers. This divice is very easy to hear underwater.

This product it’s excellent for underwater, you can make noise and all the divers around can hear you and any fish get scare for the noise. But on the surface it’s not that loud, that’s the only problem that it has.
