When you do a late afternoon dive with heavy currents, and you drift away from the dive boat. Its nice to have a big signal to get their attention.

We bought 2 signal tubes for our Cozumel trip and they worked fine. Easy to inflate and deflate. Bright color! Easy to see from distance.
I think its a good product for the money. Just add cord for a deco stop reference.

At 45", this device provides limited exposure. The oral inflater is very difficult to master, even on land and almost impossible with wet hands or gloves.

It works. I would recommend something betting if you're going to use it a lot. I dive a boat traffic heavy bridge and I have it for backup (i had one boater take my dive flag - thought he found something neat I guess). If you're going to do the occasional drift dive (ala Cozumel) it might make sense to clip it to your BCD. A real good one would have heavy fabric, an overpressure dump and maybe a light stick holder. Buy it if your not going to use it every dive - otherwise buy the best and you're never dissatisfied.

At any price, there is no reason not to have a signal like this with you. Smaller than a large man's fist when deflated, this little safety sausage is decent quality, and has a solid clip that you can attach to your BC if neccessary.
It inflates pretty quickly, but doesnt have an auto-inflate like the fancier models. It also barely takes up any space. Even if you dont have pockets on your BC, you could clip this and forget about it.
I've carried one ever since a large boat almost left without a buddy pair once. They 3rd world dive charters arent always reliable, and if the couple hadnt been holding up a bright orange sausage, the crew probably would have missed them and the day been real bad!
Visual and Audible: I carry a whistle and this. While its not the biggest signal out there, its worth having.
