I clipped a water camera to it. I would pull the camera out from under my vest and pull. I could easily extent my arms to take a picture. This device would automatically retract to hold the camera under my vest when I was done.

The first time I fully extended it, it didnt retract. I took it apart and discovered it was very cheaply made with plastic parts and a flimzy coil spring that had broken in three places. I managed to fix it and put it back together.
If you are looking into a retractor, I recommend spending a little more for a quality retractor.

I originally purchased this to hold my spg, but it is not high force enough. I thought ok, I will use it for my UK sl4 light, but it would would not stay retracted. Ultimately, it is in my dive gear bag just in case I need to attach something small to my BC.
