I pulled the watch out of the box, it woke up from sleep mode, the hands swung around for a few seconds and stopped at the right date and nearly the right time. That night it synched on my night stand, right next to a radio-sync alarm clock I have. It's kind of neato waking up every morning and seeing both dead on to the second every day.

This watch complies with the 43mm rule - that's the biggest diameter men should put on their wrist to avoid looking like a dork. It is a little on the heavy side, but it uses standard 20mm wide bands with 1.8 x 0.8 mm spring pins (unlike many Casios) and changing to a strap cuts a lot of the weight. I'm not a big fan of metal bracelets, so it was swapped out fairly quick with a strap and 20 x 2.5 x 0.8 mm pins. Much lighter, much more comfortable, changes the entire character of the watch.

Illumination is so-so. If you go to a really dark room for a few minutes, it's fine. If you're in a movie theater for a couple of hours and it's not pitch black, it's fine. If you are in a go-go bar it rocks 'cause the black lights cause them to glow very bright. If you're a U-Boat commander it's not going to cut it. For normal people, no problem.

In short, very nice watch, practical, unusual (for now), affordable, no downsides.
