This is my fourth JBL mini. I use it just about every weekend. It is great for small to medium fish--2 to 20 lbs. Easy to maneuver in and around pilings and rocks. Had bigger, sold'em. You want be disappointed.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
Everyone seems to have a problem with the short range. Easy way to fix that....buy a longer shock chord. Ever since i added a new one this gun has been great. I made the new line about 8 ft or so and it seems to work great.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
I like the size of the gun.
The band is hard to pull back with no support to put the gun against.
The trigger has bad response it pauses befor it shoots causing me to miss some easy shots.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
The most important thing a new owner will encounter as a challenge will be cocking the gun by stretching the band to the shaft notch. Due to this gun's lack of extension butt pad its very tough to get the band loaded. I've made a PVC sleeve/pad that fits over the handle to give me more leverage for easier loading. On the positive side, I use this for spearing Northern Pike in Alaska's lakes where the quarry is often hunkering in thick weed beds and shooting distance is often point blank so the limited range is not an issue in this application. The shock cord does need to be lengthened for longer shots and to give the fish room to fight. Works great in close quarters and light enough to use all day without tiring.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
I use this gun in lake Michigan for freshwater fish and it has been a huge step up from a Hawaiian sling but does have a limited range my friend has the next largest gun and i would recommend that more than this one. but for a free diver like me shooting fish no larger than 20 pounds it works pretty good. I also recommend lengthening the shock line it will be more effective that way.

My son has shot many fish with this little gun. Including a 28 inch Ling Cod.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
This is a great 'first' spear gun for the young beginner whether snorkeling or scuba diving. It holds up well, is sharp looking, and fun to use. The range and penetration abilities are low which makes for a safer experience. The spear definitely goes through smaller fish at closer ranges making it a good training spear gun.

Comments about JBL JBL D6 Mini Carbine Speargun (D-6):
Great little single band gun. Works perfectly for merky water or when you want to get fish out from under reef or in the rocks. I carry it on my BC and use my 52" Sea Hornet most of the time. Also great for beginnners just getting into the sport and not wanting to spend alot on a large high dollar gun. no need to buy any accories with it, comes perfect from the factory
